By Kelly McBride Springdale has welcomed two new members of the city’s emergency staffs. Brandon Osborne was sworn in as a police officer during city council’s July 18 meeting. Osborne comes to Springdale from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, where he worked as a special deputy sheriff. He’s participating in field training, which he’s completing during his third shift duties. “Our hope is that he will be cleared for solo duty by late September,” Springdale Police Chief Michael Mathis said. “He has a good combination of confidence, tempered by humility,” Capt. Tom Wells said of Osborne. “I think Brandon seems to be a very down-to-earth person who comes across well to others,” Mathis said of the new officer. The police department is now at 34 full-time officers. The department was at capacity of 40 officers in 2008. “We allowed attrition to lower our numbers as a way to elp deal with the economy,” Mathis said.
