New Memorial Day tribute to be at Madeira cemetery By Jeanne Houck jhouck@communitypress.com
If Revolutionary War soldier John Jones will be doing any rolling in his grave Memorial Day, it will be to the strains of the Star Spangled Banner and Taps. That’s because a new Madeira Historical Society committee designed to attract members of all ages to do community projects plans to conduct its first Memorial Day Tribute where Jones is buried, complete
with patriotic music and a color guard. The Memorial Day tribute sponsored by the historical society’s Connecting Generations Committee will begin at noon Monday, May 31, at the DeMar Jones Family Cemetery, which is in the middle of the Rollymeade Drive neighborhood. Jones was an early settler of what would become Madeira. Connecting Generations recently cleaned and spruced up the cemetery.
