DEATHS Shirley A. Andes, 70, of Elsmere, died Feb. 2. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lakeside Park, and was involved in the Genealogy Society. Her husband, Bernard Andes, died previously. Survivors include her children, David Andes of Elsmere, Barb Stines of Crittenden, and Tim Andes of Florence; sisters, Gloria Keller, Carol Doty, Susan Overby and Brenda Anderson; brothers, Steven and Mark Tolman; and five grandchildren. Interment was at Highland Cemetery in Fort Mitchell. Memorials: Shirley Andes Memorial Fund, care of any Fifth-Third Bank location.

Larry Aytes Larry E. “Murdock” Aytes, 72, of Ludlow, died Feb. 2, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. He was a retired sale representative for Harry Greenwald, Wallenstein and Mayer Jewelers, was an avid University of Cincinnati Bearcat fan, and enjoyed spending time at the race track. His sisters, Sue Turner and Wanda Leach; and brother, Ronald Aytes, died previously. Survivors include his son, Larry Aytes Jr. of Versailles; brother, Mike Aytes of Villa Hills; two grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Wendell Banks Wendell Banks, 75, of Union, died Jan. 31, at his residence. He was a 67-year resident of Boone County, took great pride in his construction work, and enjoyed fishing and keeping up on local baseball, football, basketball and sports teams. Survivors include his wife, Lynda Latham Banks; daughter, Shawna Damaeyer of Cincinnati; sons, Anthony Banks of Burlington, and Christopher Banks of Park Hills; brother, Ardell Banks; sisters, Betty Vaughn, Patricia Gutzeit and Debra Croy; and five grandchildren. Memorials: the charity of donor’s choice.

Peter Beers Peter B. Beers, 90, of Erlanger, died Feb. 2, at his home. He was a builder, leading Ben Beers and Sons Construction for many years, and served as a B-17 pilot who was shot down during World War II. His wife, Audrey Beers; brother, James Beers; and daughters, Susan King and Linda Beers, died previously. Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Beers of Erlanger; sisters, Bettysue Strange of Edgewood, and Lucy Moeller of Erlanger; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Erlanger. Memorials: Erlanger Christian Church, 27 Graves Ave., Erlanger, KY 41018.

Louise Bitter Louise Bitter, 72, of Florence, died Jan. 28, at Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Ronald L. Bitter of Florence; daughters, Marianne Farley of Elsmere, and Rhonda Lynn Huffman of Florence; sister, Betty Adkins of Florence; four grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. George Brandenburg George “Gene” Brandenburg, 81, of Independence, died Feb. 5, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. His siblings, Dan, Bonnie and Nan, died previously. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Lee Brandenburg of Independence; children, Ken Brandenburg of Burlington, Jeannie Lester of Fort Thomas, Barbara Hoxby of Florence, Connie Gross of Alexandria, John Brandenburg of Maineville, Ohio, and Craig Brandenburg of Walton; and sister, Mary Meek; and 13 grandchildren. Interment was at Mother of God Cemetery. Memorials: Hospice of the Bluegrass, 7388 Turfway Road, Suite 202, Florence, KY, 41042.

Penny Clements Penny Clements, 48, of Inde-

pendence, died Feb. 4, at her residence. She was an assistant customerservice manager at AU-VE-CO, Cold Spring. Her father, Charles “Art” O’Neal, died previously. Survivors include her husband, Mark Clements; mother, Mary O’Neal of Independence; sons, Ryan O’Neal of Independence, and Dylan Clements of Independence; brother, Steve O’Neal of Independence; and sister, Peggy Justice of Independence. Interment was at Independence Cemetery. Memorials: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 153 Thierman Lane, Louisville, KY 40207.

Kathleen Creighton Kathleen Agnes Creighton, 89, of Latonia, died Jan. 31, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. She was a member of the Holy Cross Church, an avid bowler, and loved to play bingo. Survivors include her husband, John Creighton; sons, Eugene Woolridge, Jacob Woolridge and Jimmy Creighton; daughter, Dianne Ricken; brothers, Tom Due, Bobby Due, David Due and Danny Due; sister, Rita Willig; nine grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren. Interment was at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown. Memorials: St. Elizabeth Hospice, 483 S. Loop Road, Edgewood, KY 41017; or VA Medical Center, 3200 Vine St., Cincinnati, OH 45220.

Robert Gillispie Robert Harold “Bob” Gillispie, 90, of Newport, died Feb. 3, in Fort Thomas. He was retired from Wadsworth Electric Company, and was a World War II veteran. His wife, Margaret Gillispie; sister, Irene Platt; and brother, John Gillispie, died previously. Survivors include his sister, Dessie Davis of Taylor Mill; brother, Sonny Bishop of Falmouth; and several nieces and nephews. Burial was at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Carolan Griffith Carolan Griffith, 64, of Newport, died Feb. 2, at St. Elizabeth Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Kenner Griffith of Newport; sons, Jason Griffith of Newport, Brian Griffith of Morning View, and Greg Griffith of Newport; daughter, Stephanie Rojas of Erlanger; sisters, Junetta Mack, Faye Dillenger and Janice Holbrook; brother, Victor Ratliff; 17 grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. Burial was at Highland Cemetery.

William Hawkins William B. Hawkins, 71, of Taylor Mill, died Jan. 20, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. He was the owner and operator of Delmar Foods in Covington, and was an avid gun collector, golfer and fisherman. His son, Robert W. Hawkins, died previously. Survivors include his wife, Jenetta Rice Hawkins; daughter, Christie Holder of Taylor Mill; mother, Juanita Campbell of Erlanger; brothers, Charles Ray Hawkins of Florence, and James D. Parsons of Crescent Springs; sisters, Janice Stanley of Florida, and Mary Ann Stradtman of Dayton, Ky.; and one granddaughter. Interment was at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill. Kent Kaufman Kent Gerard Kaufman, 52, of Villa Hills, died Jan. 29, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. He was a manager with Pilot Home Center (Hess & Racke) in Alexandria, was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Crescent Springs, and enjoyed rebuilding antique cars and remodeling homes. Survivors include his wife, Sally Kaufman of Villa Hills; daughter, Allison Rose Gerhardstein of Villa Hills; son, Bradley David Kaufman of Villa Hills; parents, Fred and Etta Kaufman of Cold Spring; sisters, Kristina Bihl of Highland Heights, and Kathleen Painter of Fort Thomas; brother, Kevin Kaufman of Grants Lick; and one grandson. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Mitchell. Memorials: St. Elizabeth Hospice, 483 S. Loop Road, Edgewood, KY 41017.

Daniel Lee Staff Sgt. Daniel T. Lee, 28, of Fort Wright, died Jan. 15, while serving in the United States Army in Parwan Province, Afghanistan. Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Schultz Lee; son, Daniel R. Lee; parents, Dan and Fran Lee; and sister, Jamie Hahn. Burial was at Mother of God Cemetery.

James Mulligan James T. “J.T.” Mulligan, 83, of Erlanger, died Jan. 17, at his residence. He served the Erlanger community as a teacher, athletic director and high school baseball coach at Lloyd Memorial High School and Tichenor Middle School for 37 years. He is a member of the Kentucky Baseball Hall of Fame, Queen City Umpires, Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame, Lloyd Athletic Hall of Fame, Knothole Hall of Fame, Kentucky High School Coaches Hall of Fame,

step-grandson. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials: Erlanger United Methodist Church, 31 Commonwealth Ave. Erlanger, KY 41018; or the J.T. Mulligan Scholarship Fund, care of Heritage Bank, 456 Commonwealth Ave., Erlanger, KY 41018.

Donna Mullins Donna Ann Mullins, 50, of Erlanger, died Jan. 30. She was a member of Big Bone Baptist Church, and a volunteer with the Elsmere Fire Department.

Alvina E. Knapp, 85, of Latonia, died Jan. 31, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. She worked for WesternSouthern Life Insurance Company as a clerk, was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, volunteered at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Covington and Edgewood, was on the board of the Weekday School of Religion, was a member of local and state PTA, and previously was a financial secretary at the former St. Luke United Methodist Church. Her husband, Ralph J. Knapp, and sister, Eileen Huber, died previously. Survivors include her son, Ralph E. Knapp of Athens, Ga.; sister, Evelyn Huber of Batesville, Ind.; and cousin, Alvin Huff of Sunman, Ind. Interment was at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill.

Earl Gunkel Earl H. Gunkel, 94, of Taylor Mill, died Feb. 1, at his residence. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, was a retired union carpenter from Local 2 where he was a life member, was a member of Holy Cross Parish and the former St. Aloysius Holy Name Society, specialized in creating fine cabinetry, and enjoyed photography. His brothers, Clifford Gunkel and Paul Gunkel; sister, Laverne Lysaght-Lamping; and granddaughter, Pamela Abner, died previously. Survivors include his wife, Ella Reynolds Gunkel; sons, Gary Gunkel and Robert Gunkel; daughters, Beverly Abner and Jane Elliott; brothers, Melvin Gunkel and Frank Gunkel; five grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Clarence Hamblin Clarence E. Hamblin, 53, of Taylor Mill, died Jan. 30, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was the owner of Eugene’s Auto Service in Erlanger, and later worked for Carthage Auto Sales. Survivors include his daughter, Dorena Hamblin of Wilder; brother, Dexter Hamblin Jr. of Erlanger; sister, Debbie Webber of Covington; longtime companion, Jaimie Smith of Taylor Mill; and one granddaughter.

Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Kenton County Teachers Association, Hebron Masonic Lodge 757, Scottish Rite, Erlanger United Methodist Church and United Methodist Men. He also served as the Dixie Area Knothole Supervisor, was voted Ninth Region Coach of the Year, coached the Otto Printing Knothole Team to the Greater Cincinnati Championships in Class A and B, and won many championships with the Lloyd High School baseball team.
