VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden – needs volunteers in the volunteer education program. Volunteers will receive training, invitations to special events and a monthly newsletter, among other benefits. There are numerous volunteer opportunities now available, including: “Ask Me” Station Program, Slide Presenters Program, Tour Guide Program, Animal Handlers Program, CREW Education Program. Each area has its own schedule and requirements. Certified training is also required. Must be 18 or older and have a high school degree or GED diploma. Granny’s is growing produce for needy families in the area, with support from the Greenfield Plant Farm. Greenfield Plant Farm donated their surplus tomato and green pepper plants to the Granny’s Garden School program. Mercy Hospital Anderson – Seeks volunteers for the new patient services team, the Patient Partner Program. This team will provide volunteers with the opportunity to interact directly with the patients on a non-clinical level. Volunteers will receive special training in wheelchair safety, infection control, communication skills, etc. The volunteers will assist in the day-today non clinical functions of a nursing unit such as reading or praying with the patient; playing cards or watching TV with the patient; helping the patient select meals; running an errand; cutting the patient’s food.
