Scholarship winners

Seventh grader Nicolas Montag has qualified to represent The Summit Middle School and participate at the upcoming Ohio National Geographic Bee, sponsored by JP Morgan Chase, at The Ohio State University. Montag is from Indian Hill.

The right chemistry

Three Seven Hills School chemistry students have earned top honors in recent competitions. From left Haleigh Monaco of Clifton placed third out of 70 top chemistry students on the second-year Oesper exam, winning a cash award; Peppar Cyr of East Walnut Hills, along with Monaco, scored high enough on the qualifying exam of the Chemistry Olympiad to be invited to the second tier of competition; and Suhel Singh of Indian Hill placed fourth out of 80 top area chemistry students competing in the first-year Ralph E. Oesper Chemistry Examinations of the Cincinnati Section of the American Chemical Society.

Teachers accepted to Posen seminar Two Seven Hills School teachers were recently accepted to the Posen Foundation Seminar. Eighth-grade English teacher Linda Maupin of Indian Hill and history teacher Judith NeidleinDial of Greenhills were accepted to the first seminar on integrating Jewish Studies topics into middleand high-school classrooms. Maupin and Neidlein-Dial spent the weekend of April 17 in New York at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, analyzing primary

source material, discussing the validity and implementation of pedagogical strategies and reveling in the intellectually stimulating collaboration with like-minded passionate educators. Next year, elements of this experience will be part of a cross-curricular collaboration between the two departments on the nature of power, its misuse historically during World War II and its abuse in William Golding’s novel, “Lord of the Flies.”
