Liu performed a Chinese Opera during an assembly at Winton Woods High School Nov. 22. Seven other members of the troupe from National Taiwan College of Performing Arts also performed at Sycamore High School, the School for the Createive and Performing Arts, Stepping Stones Center and Miami University. They are doing it without charge as cultural out-reach. Chinese Opera is a unique combination of singing, acrobatics and martial arts that dates back almost a 1,000 years.

is always looking for adult education opportunities. The district held the adult introductory lessons several years ago. She said when Winton Woods received a grant to bring two teachers from China to the district to teach the language to students, the opportunity once again presented itself. “We thought we would try it again,” Burnett said. While the district is hoping about 15 adults join the class, hundreds of district students are currently taking Chinese. Winton Woods Middle

The Forest Park Steppers recently joined health and physical education students at Winton Woods Middle School for some lessons in line dancing. The partnership was part of the school’s focus on lifetime wellness and fitness. Stepper Lina Person is pictured describing some dance moves while eighth-grader Brian Soto listens.

McAuley High School senior Amanda Rapien received the Honda-OSU Partnership Math Medal Award for the class of 2011. She was nominated by Kristina Schwartz, head of the guidance department, as the best math student in her class of 2011. Rapien is part of the second group of seniors to win the award from the program, which is located at the Ohio State University College of Engineering. Additionally, the medal comes with a scholarship opportunity in the amount of a $3,000-per-year renewable scholarship to OSU for the next academic year, and may be combined with any other offers Rapien receives from OSU. She is the daughter of Mike and Jean Rapien of Mount Healthy.
