Sign onto Union Township’s website and you can watch videos of trustees making decisions at their board meetings. Milford’s website has a business section with information about the city’s tax incentives, workforce and infrastructure. And Miami Township has colorful maps of its four parks on its website illustrating features from a two-acre Bark Park down to the last picnic table. Signs welcome newcomers to a municipality but virtual visitors experience a community through its website. It’s become commonplace for residents and visitors to let their fingers do the walking on community websites and discover meeting agendas and minutes, links to videotaped meetings, contact information for and pictures of officials, community calendars, property and police

forms, business links and community links. Pierce Township’s website has a link to Ohio’s Online Checkbook. Bethel’s website allows residents to make utility payments online. Batavia Township’s website has forms to apply for fence and swimming pool permits. Here’s what some community officials have to say about their websites:

Batavia Township bataviatownship.org Batavia Township plans to update its website next year. “It’s a very valuable tool for interacting with the public,” said township Administrator Rex Parsons. The website, which was developed more than five years ago, provides minutes from previous Batavia Township Board of Trustees’ meetings, community updates and information on local businesses and parks. Next year, Parsons said, two separate websites will be created.

One will be for desktops and will provide detailed township information. A second will be a mobile website that will provide “quicker, easier access” to information. Batavia Township pays about $320 annually for a hosting service.

Bethel www.bethel-oh.gov Bethel Mayor Alan Ausman says providing information to residents is the primary purpose of the village’s website; visitors can access Bethel Village Council agendas, minutes, resolutions and audio recordings on it. You can even listen to village council meetings in real time through the website. Bethel’s website was designed three to four years ago, village Administrator Travis Dotson said, and is being updated. Bethel pays $100 per month in maintenance fees. o choir highlight of school ear for ethel students Sheila A. ilvens svilvens@communitypress.com

Hill Intermediate School fourth-graders Matthew Stall and Weston Gruber and third-grader Peyton Foster seem much like their peers until they sing. Then it’s obvious that these three boys are uniquely gifted. Their gift of song has taken them, and Bick Primary School second-grader Trace Gearig, to the Cincinnati Boychoir. This isn’t a place where young people ust show up to participate. First recommendations are needed, and then an audition. If all the criteria are met and the boys perform to a certain stan-

dard at their audition, then, and only then, are they admitted to this prestigious choir that includes the talents of ust 200 boys. Luckily for the boys, music teacher Taylor Brown is always looking for enrichment opportunities for her students in the Bethel-Tate Local School District. Each year the Boychoir invites Brown, and other area teachers, to recommend students for consideration. Last fall, she recommended 20. At least five of the students made the cut, but only four embraced the challenge. Stall said he was “really nervous” when he arrived for his audition. Once in the choir, he was concerned he wouldn’t be able to remember all the songs he learned. “And when it came to the concert, I ust remembered,” he said. Foster said he was well-prepared for his audition. When he received his letter of acceptance, he said he wasn’t sure what it was. “Then I showed it to my mom,” he said. “I was very excited.” Gruber en oyed the experience of learning and

performing with the choir. He said he was invited to audition for next season’s concert and tour choir both a notch or two above training level where he and his classmates ended their season. While he’s hopeful of being selected for a spot next year with Boychoir, Gruber also expressed concern that the tour choir would interfere with his sports activities. All three boys are hopeful of continuing with the choir and appreciative of the experiences of this school year. “It was really fun and I’m kind of sad that it’s over for now,” Gruber said. During this past season, the boys traveled with the training choir to perform at three different retirement homes. Singing for the senior citi-

zens was Foster’s favorite part, he said. Stall said that he especially en oyed the opportunity to sing international songs and sing in different languages. Brown expressed her pride in her students’ success. “When I get to see you guys for the concert, it is one of the best parts about my school year,” she said. “Anytime I see you guys on stage whether it’s with the Boychoir or here. And seeing you guys en oy it so much and take pride in it.” Even better, knowing that the boys hope to continue with the Boychoir is “rewarding,” Brown said. Also rewarding, seeing Bethel represented in the Boychoir program, she added.

goal to make Bethel administration paperless, the website also provides access to related forms and links including one that allows residents to make utility payments online.

Mia i Township www. ia itwp.org “We do believe that it is essential to have a first-class website as an effective portal to inform our residents,” said Miami Township Administrator Jeff Wright. “We update it almost daily to maintain a functional site. We also seek feedback from the public and new employees to gain a fresh perspective. “One new change that is a result of our new township planner, Jeff Uckotter, is the oning Corner,” Wright said. “This has reduced the number of phone calls residents, builders or developers need to make to have an answer to a question.” Wright said Miami Township saves money by having township Multimedia Manager Will Menz in charge of the website. “Thanks to Will’s efforts, we capture photos and videos of community events so that the public is enticed to visit the site more frequently,” Wright said. “We also have become voracious Tweeters in every one of our departments. “With an effective website as our portal, visitors can then link themselves to the five other forms of social media that we maintain,” Wright said.

the city,” said Milford Mayor Laurie Howland. “It is usually the first place residents, visitors and investors will go to learn or gather information. “To help keep important current information out there, we run our Facebook feed on the home page,” Howland said. “Our Communication Director, Lori Pegg, and other staff members have 24-hour access to that feed so that we can quickly get out any important information.” Howland said Milford revamped its website a few years ago. “But current administration is also looking at ways to continue to improve the site,” Howland said.

Pierce Township piercetownship.org Since debuting a new website last year, Pierce Township continues to add updates and new features designed to keep it relevant and helpful to both residents and the business community.

“Our website is a fluid way to get information to the community,” said township Communications Coordinator Jennifer Newcomb. “We are constantly thinking of ways to change, update and improve it. “Our main goal isn’t ust to get information and public documents and the like to the community, but also to illustrate we’re a thriving community that is growing and is a great place to work and live,” Newcomb said. “And of course, we are always open to suggestions.” The cost of Pierce Township’s new website was minimal because all of the work was done in-house, Newcomb said. The hosting fee is ust under $240 for two years. Newcomb said Pierce Township’s website is only one way the township shares information. It also uses Facebook and an email newsletter. “Since we are all about transparency, Ohio’s Online Checkbook is linked on our site,” Newcomb said.

“There you can see all of our financial transactions and the checkbook is updated twice a year.” Coming soon to Pierce Township’s website is a new economic-development section designed to attract developers.

Union Township union-township.oh.us “Transparency is very important to me and Union Township and so the website for Union Township is very important to our community,” said John McGraw, chairman of the Union Township Board of Trustees. “On our website we list our meeting agendas, meeting minutes, resolutions adopted, budgets and our purchase orders paid . “We provide a one-stop source for township documents and financials. We rarely get requests for documents at our office because people can view the information online,” McGraw said. McGraw said the Union Township website has information on all township depart-

ments and email links to department contacts and elected officials. “We have videos of our meetings for people who cannot make it in person,” McGraw said. “We also have our newsletters and a history of Union Township; I think it is one of the best history sections of any local government.” McGraw said there is a section on Union Townshipowned and operated Mt. Moriah Cemetery with all of the services available and a searchable database to find people buried there. “Our IT department can make changes daily to the website and we do post latebreaking information,” McGraw said. “There is a link on our website to go to our Facebook page as well. “We also use our Facebook page and the police department Facebook page to post videos and important information,” McGraw said. eporters heila il ens and Forrest ellers contributed to this stor .

Heat butter on medium high heat in 10” nonstick pan, and when foaming subsides and just starts to color a bit, pour in egg mi ture. Cook until edges start to set, a few seconds. With a spatula, gently push cooked portions from edges toward the center, tilting pan to one side so that uncooked eggs run to edge of pan. On Sept. 20, during the Milford City Council meeting, there was an opportunity for citizen input regarding a plan for the area once occupied by Milford Main School. I was encouraged that all the citizens who spoke were in favor of in that area. On Sept. 2 , a meeting took place at Pattison Elementary School where citizens in attendance divided into small groups to discuss ideas regarding a plan for the aforementioned area. These ideas were recorded and forwarded to Milford City Council for consideration. During the Oct. 18 Milford City Council meeting there will be opportunity for civic organizations to share ideas for the area. On Nov. 15, during the Milford City Council meeting developers will have an opportunity to state plans they may have for that area. This area at Five Points is truly the gateway to Milford. I encourage all citizens interested in the development of this area to attend one or both or these upcoming Milford City Council meetings to voice your opinion. Pamela R. Cerveny i ford

To all the Mil or Ban enthusiasts For more than eight years we have been attending Milford football games and band competitions. Many of you already know how hard the marching band members, flag corps and directors work. Learning the music and the choreography is intense work that starts in July. Last Friday night we went to the Milford-Loveland game anticipating our first look at both the game and the band. I might also add the football boosters and band boosters do a great ob in readying the stadium for all the fans. The marching band was ready to go shortly after the two teams left the field. I know I speak for a lot of the marching band fans. Here comes the entertainment - oh boy the band. Then, up and down the rows people are exiting the bleachers. Conversations are all about the first half. I think to my-

self, would these folks ust be quiet and sit down. This part of the game can be the best part of the evening. The parents, relatives and fans of the marching band are engrossed by the sounds and formations on the field. The precision of the 1 0 band members are fascinating the audience who have waited patiently to “cheer” the band. I’m writing to inform football fans that the marching band fans are ust as passionate about their band. So let’s all cheer at the football games and at half time for our award winning marching band and be respectful of each other. Patricia A. Clark i ford

Opposing Diek e er ar evelop ent On Oct. 11, Miami Township Trustees will vote on a Ryan Homes development, planned for the Diekmeyer Farm property at the corner of Branch-Hill Guinea and Cook Weber roads. As long time Miami Township residents, we oppose this development and urge all Milford and Miami Township residents to attend the meeting to voice your opposition to this zoning change. The proposed development will add 320 school children to the Milford Schools, costing more than $3 million per year to taxpayers in Milford and Miami Township to educate these children. The new Boyd E. Smith School, across the street from the farm, is already over capacity and the remaining schools cannot accommodate these students. The development would add 1, 20 daily car trips to our roads. The latest traffic study, based on four hours of collected traffic data from 2014, concluded that this will not require any changes to Branch-Hill Guinea and Cook Road. Those of us who fight that traffic on both these roads and witness the cars that cut through Tanglewood, Paxton South and Paxton Lakes to avoid Branch-Hill Guinea know better. This developer’s plan includes small lots, with homes 15 feet apart and 40 feet from the street, designed to cram 1 0 houses into the buildable land. In addition, plans in-

Write-in Everhar or Congress Woe to those of us who live in Ohio’s Second Congressional District, for the November ballot gives us a very bleak choice. The incumbent, Brad Wenstrup, is a four-year member of the least productive Congress in history. The Democratic challenger, William Smith, is a shadow candidate with no experience who simply runs because he can. One will support his party’s presidential nominee regardless of the damage done to our country; the other does not hold the values of the party he pretends to represent. Neither will work for you. You need to know that there is a better option. Dr. Janet Everhard has entered this race as a write-in candidate. This community knows Dr. Everhard. Throughout her 20-year medical practice she has cared for our mothers, wives and daughters as a physician and surgeon. She cares for our wounded veterans through her work with Team River Runner, which uses paddle sports as recreational therapy. Her ideas for the Interstate Bikeway System and the Branding of Appalachia will bolster local economic growth. She is the founder of USA Works Community, which is working to help us make consumer choices that better benefit our economy and our environment. Go to www.WriteInEverhard.com to learn more. The Second District deserves a representative who will rise above political gridlock with an honest desire to serve. On your ballot mark the oval square and write in Everhard. Karen Marotta ata ia

Milford boys golf sends pair to districts Nick Robbe nrobbe@communitypress.com

MILFORD - The Division I Cincinnati East boys golf sectional Oct.4 at Glenview played tight. Lakota East, Mason, Loveland and Moeller advanced to districts at Beavercreek Golf Club. Nine strokes separated the first from the fourth team. The Eagles, which shot 320 as a team, was left on the outside looking in. However, Milford managed to get a pair of golfers to Beavercreek. Seniors Nathan Arnold and Aaron Wade shot and 8, respectively. Justin Horn shot an 81 and Tristin Woster fired an 84 to round out the Eagles’ scoring. Milford also won the overall Eastern Cincinnati Conference title recently. “Nathan turned in a solid round and is happy to be making his fourth trip to districts,” coach Phil Sheldon said. “Aaron made it by winning a playoff. He’s been consistent all year. Our sectional was loaded. Five of the top seven teams in the city were in one tournament. A great team is bound to be left out. Unfortunately, that was us.”

Advancing past a loaded sectional speaks to how good the Eagles actually played. The Tigers, which finished second in the ECC, are advancing as a team. Kings, which won the conference tournament and finished third overall, will represented by Matthew Shumar. “It’s nice from a representative standpoint. This is big for the ECC.” Sheldon said. “We’ll see how districts go. Beavercreek is new for everybody. In previous years, you knew a 3 or 4 would probably qualify you for state. Now, nobody has any idea.”

Milford Trout honored b alma mater Nick Robbe nrobbe@communitypress.com

MILFORD - For much of the past 20 years, Milford Athletic Director Mark Trout has been about showcasing student-athletes and bettering their experiences on and off the field or court. On the weekend of Oct. 1, it was Trout’s turn to be in the spotlight. Talawanda High School, his alma mater, inducted him into its athletic hall of fame. As a Brave, Trout was a three-year varsity starter on the soccer team and an all-conference selection as a defender. He was a starter on two of the most successful soccer teams in school history. He also won the team’s “Unsung Hero Award.” “I’d rather highlight the accomplishments of our players and teams, but this is quite an honor,” he said. “I’m very appreciative of this and proud to have an impact on both school systems. This is something that is very special.” Trout was nominated and went through the selection process. He said he didn’t know all the details, but added that it was unexpected. “It was a great induction class and I was honored to be with them,” he said. The thing Trout misses most about his playing days is the camaraderie. He en oyed his teammates, building friendships and playing on those successful teams. The friendships were clearly longlasting. Four teammates came in from Arizona, Indianapolis and the Baltimore and

Mc ick s armosino not worried about record Nick Robbe nrobbe@communitypress.com

MT. WASHINGTON - McNicholas senior wide receiver and kicker Cole Carmosino entered the season 14 field goals away from the state record. Entering the Oct. 8 matchup with Fenwick, he had six to his name. He’s chasing the milestone without actively going for it. Head coach Mike Orlando and Carmosino weren’t aware prior to the season. Even after learning of the mark, things haven’t changed much. “I didn’t know about it until this summer,” Orlando said. “I went and checked to find out for myself. Cole didn’t realize that, either. He ust goes out and kicks. He’s going to do what’s best for the team.” His pass-catching abilities might be more important at this point in the season. The senior is one of the GCL-Coed’s leading receivers with 523 yards. He has five touchdowns, too. If it were up to him, he’d rather help the team by making big catches. However, he did admit the record-chasing experience has been a good one. “I prefer catching deep passes to making a long kick,” Carmosino said. “It gets the team going and helps them out. It’s pretty fun though. It comes up when my family members or friends bring up kicking. It’s not something I think about in the game because I’m primarily a receiver. I’m out there on the line most of the time. If we don’t make the third down, then it’s OK, we’re kicking.’ That’s when it comes to mind.” Orlando said the senior is more free-spirited and won’t put a ton of pressure on himself. The coach recalled a situation during Cole’s freshman year when Wyoming tried to freeze

him on a game-winning extrapoint attempt. The coach said Carmosino was visibly nervous about trying to split the uprights and was so relieved when the Cowboys called the timeout. It gave him extra time. “He’s a unique kid,” the coach said. Similar to stumbling upon this record, the Rockets stumbled upon Carmosino as a kicker. The team needed a kicker following graduation and the thenfreshman volunteered for the role. The coaches tried him out, liked what they saw and have kept him in the spot. “I’d say kicking is definitely harder to perfect,” the senior said. “I have had a great receivers coach in Steve Rice the past four years. Kicking is ust about being persistent.” A kicker like Carmosino is a luxury. Orlando said once the team crosses the 50, the decision-making process begins. If the Rockets get to the 30, it gets tougher. “We love that fact that when we’re in range, we have a chance at getting points,” the coach. “The way our offense has been going this year, it’s really nice to see touchdowns over field goals.” uarterback Cameron Haynes and his new offensive line are playing better. It’s had a trickle-down effect during the team’s recent three-game winning streak. Carmosino said having the record would be great and would be nice when it came to making college choices. But at the end of the day, it’s about helping the team win. “He would trade in that record or even being close to it for finishing the season strong and another GCL title,” Orlando said.

untin season is o to a reat start Howdy folks, The fishing is good. The musky are really biting. One feller caught a musky that was 4 inches long. They range in size from 32 inches to 4 inches long. eorge When you Rooks are fishing for musky OLE FISHERMAN you need to have a steel leader to the bait. The musky have a mouth full of teeth. One fisherman was catching stripers that weighed 12 pounds. The hunting season is doing very good. One feller harvested a deer that had a rack with 20 points. Another feller harvested a deer with an eight-point rack that registered 134 1 8 inches. That is a good rack. The deer around my place seem to be very happy with the soybean field here. The duck season will be here before long and the dove season is in now. On Wednesday morning I had a Senior Service meeting. The services they do for seniors are very important and I have been on the board for several years, I am very glad I can have a part in this wonderful organization. The Brown County fair was last week and I went up on Thursday morning. The first thing I saw was

pumpkins. They were huge. The smallest one only weighed 435 pounds. The largest one was a mere 1,435 pounds. That would make lots of pies The Pumpkin Run at the Clermont County Fairgrounds last weekend was a very fine event. The weather was good and they set a record this year. The Northeastern Lions Club do so much for the community like all Lions Clubs. It takes a lot of work for the Lions Club to do a good event and each town that has a club is very fortunate. The Bethel Lions Club has taken in five new members. Saturday evening I went down to the Receptions in Eastgate for a beautiful wedding. There was a big crowd and after the wedding I had to leave as there was a program at the Grange Hall in Nicholsville. It seems I have a lot on my plate. On this past Monday I met at Poochie’s Restau-

rant to eat a noon meal with four fellers - one was the priest from the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He is a grand person. The homecoming parade was Friday in Bethel. The Bethel Lions Club was in the parade, I always en oy being in the parade. I got a call from Bethel Woods this morning. They were having a session on senior needs and how they were done. It was good. It was on bussing, housing, caregiver support, homecare, and several other items. Chester is doing fine, he has me trained rather well. Start your week by going to the house of worship of your choice and praising the good Lord. God bless all ...
