Charles “Charlie” R. Chambers, 79, of Covington, died June 27, 2011, at his residence. He retired after 22 years of service as Army Sergeant Major (E-9) and was a member of Kelly Furnish VFW Post No. 7099, E-9’s National Retirees’ Association, DAV Retirees’ in Fort Knox and Covington Turners. He served at St. John Church with bingo, fish fries and collections of offerings at Masses. Survivors include his wife, Cookie Lubbers Chambers; daughter, Sherri Chambers Spaulding of Newport; son, Chuck Chambers of Covington; sister, Aline Simpson of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and two grandchildren. Gwendolyn Gains, 73, of Kodak, Tenn., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died June 30, 2011, at her residence. She was a claims adjuster for Allstate Insurance Company. Larry P. LaCally, 70, of Alexandria, formerly of Dayton, died July 9, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Fort Thomas.
He was a retired truck driver for Hostess Cakes and a member of the Tri-City Gun Club. His brothers, Mike McCoy and Jerry Greeson, died previously. Shawn Kevin Lanthorne, 46, of Newport, died June 30, 2011. He worked as an industrial mover for Hosea Interval of Covington. His sister Wanda Lanthorne died in 1973. Earl Lee Prather, 83, of Newport, died July 7, 2011, at Carmel Manor in Fort Thomas. He was a U.S. Merchant Marine World War II veteran. His wife, Mary Ann Prather, died previously.
George Ragan
George W. Ragan, 82, of Cold Spring, died June 28, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. He retired from CSX in the late 1980s. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his bounty with others. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring. Survivors include his wife, Marian Menkedick Ragan; daughters, Donna Weinel of Alexandria and Deborah Neace of Alexandria; sons, David Ragan of Highland Heights and Warren Ragan of Alexandria; stepdaughter, Susan McCall of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services have taken place. Burial is in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Claude Ervine Little, 50, of California, died June 21, 2011. He was a member of Asseopesa, Grants Lick Baptist Church, and a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Three brothers, Paul Little, Steve Little and Ricky James Little; a sister, Nancy Rosalee Little; and his father, Steve Little, died previously. Survivors include his mother, Irene Little; brothers, Charles Little of Latonia, Ernie Little of Demossville and Elmer Little of Newport; and sisters, Joann Wright of Georgetown, Gracie Yelton of Melbourne and Wilma Dunn of Alexandria. Walter Read, 85, of Silver Grove, died July 8, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Fort Thomas. He was a retired truck driver for GE and a U.S. Army World War II veteran. His wife, Helen P. Read, died previously. John “Jack” Manning, 86, of Newport, died July 2, 2011, at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. He was a retired lithographer with Bell & Hortenstine Printing Company. His wife, Rose Witte Manning, and a brother, Bill Manning, died previously.
