DEATHS Frank C. Banker, 68, of Florence, died on July 21. The U.S. Air Force veteran was a current member of Burlington Lodge 264 in Burlington. He worked for Delta Airlines for 32 years before retiring in 2002. Survivors include his wife, Karen L. Banker of Florence; son, Frank J. Banker of California; daughter, Tami M. Banker of California; and a grandson. He was cremated per his request. His family wants to thanks his friends, neighbors, and his Delta family for their dedicated support along with the staff at St. Elizabeth Florence ICU for all of their love and care.

Harry Cheesman Harry W. Cheesman, 61, of Walton, died July 27. He retired after more than 40 years of working for Aristech Acrylics in the research and development department. He graduated from Walton-Verona High School in 1971 and was a member of the Kentucky Bikers Association. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, driving his Chevrolet, and caring for his yard. His father, Robert Lee Cheesman; and brother, David Michael Cheesman, died previously. Survivors include his wife, Hettie “Skeeter” Cheesman; daughter, Rae Ann Vitali; mother, Madeline Steers; sister, Cindy Williams; brothers James Cheesman and Jerry Cheesman; and a granddaughter. Burial was at Walton Cemetery. Memorials: St. Elizabeth Hospice, 483 S. Loop Rd., Edgewood, KY 41017.

Terry Evans Terry Morgan Evans, 68, of Verona, died July 23 at St. Elizabeth in Edgewood. A U.S Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War, he retired in 2001 as a lieutenant in the Kentucky State Police after more than 30 years of service. He then became a polygraph officer for the Kentucky State Police until 2008. He served as president for the Kentucky State Police Retirees for one year and was a graduate of Lebanon High School. Leading his many interests of camping, fishing, and woodworking was the love of his grandchildren. His daughter, Tonya Evans, died previously. Survivors include his wife, Vicky Sebastian Evans; sons Justin Sebastian of Dry Ridge, Tejay Evans of Hebron, and Adam Sebastian of Fishers, Ind.; brothers John Evans of Winchester and Tim Evans of Lexington; and four grandchildren. Burial was at Independence Cemetery. Memorials: Kentucky State Police Trooper Island, 4265 Dixie Hwy., Dry Ridge, KY 41035.

Edward Foltz Edward Leo Foltz, 74, died on July 25. Born at home in 1940 on his grandparents’ farm, where Covington Catholic High School sits today, he had a simple, but fulfilling life. In his late teens he did custom bush hogging and later acquired a Kentucky Enquirer route, which he worked while also farming. He bid and acquired his first postal route in the late 1960s and continued to contract and haul mail for the United States Postal Service for 47 years, until he retired due to ill health. He served as president of the Kentucky branch of the National Star Route Mail Contractors for 25 years. His brother, Don Foltz; and son, Gary Foltz, died previously. Survivors include his wife, Shelly Nehring Foltz; sons Jonathan Foltz and Rodney Foltz; sisters Virginia Hall of Walton and Janet Blackburn of Florence; and two grandchildren. Interment was at Independence Cemetery. Memorials: Hospice of the Bluegrass, 7388 Turfway Rd., Florence, KY 41042.

Harriett Ford Harriett DeGeer Ford, 100, of Florence, died recently.

Her interests included literature, fine arts, and especially the nurture and development of children. She was an honor graduate of Colorado State University and held advanced certification and graduate degrees from Xavier University and Murray State University. She was a dedicated teacher, principal and school administrator who retired in 1974, after employment in McCracken, Gallatin, Boone and Grant counties, to pursue her interest in quilts. She served proactively as a documenter and interviewer of quilt makers in Kentucky under an initiative by Phyllis George. Additionally, she was an avid crossword puzzle devotee and delighted in reading great works of literature. Her daughter, Roxanne Foster Russell; son, Robert DeGeer Amyx; and four siblings, died previously. Survivors include her husband, James B. Ford of Florence; and child, Raleigh DeGeer Amyx of Hernando, Fla; and many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Cloris Jones Cloris Faye Tritsch Jones, 79, of Florence, died July 22 at Hospice Edgewood. She was a member of St. Paul Church in Florence and retired from the University of Kentucky 4-H Center in Jabez. She resided in the Cumberland Lake region for 25 years before returning to Northern Kentucky. Her husband, Carl Eugene Jones; sisters Margaret Flick and Carol Bowman; and brother, Milton Clayton Tritsch, died previously. Survivors include a son, Donald Craddock of Dry Ridge; daughters Lois Hitch of Jabez, Pam West of Covington, and Margie Wolfer of Hebron; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial was at Highland Cemetery in Fort Mitchell.

Karl Kepler Karl E. Kepler, 86, of Florence and formerly of Kenton County, died July 23 at Florence Park Care Center. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II. He retired as owner and operator of Karl E. Kepler Inc. Commercial HVA Co. in Cincinnati and was a lifelong member of Elder Emeritus. He was also a choir member, Sunday school teacher, and trustee as well as general board member of various organizations. He helped start Madison Avenue Christian Church’s community dinners program. He was also a member of Covington Lodge 109 F&AM, Indra Consistory Scottish Rite, Highland Cemetery Board, and Covington Wade Branch YMCA Board, as well as a past president of Erlanger Kiwanis Club. The former high school substitute teacher was also past president of the Covington Women’s Home Board and he was a member of the Florence Community Chorus. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed volunteering for the Northern Kentucky Senior Citizens Association. Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn “Glenna” Waddell Kepler; son, Kurt Kepler of Erlanger; daughters, Rev. Jill Kepler Campbell of Batesville, Ind.; Judith Anne Alvey of Deer Park, Ill., and Jennifer Sue Mueller of Ponte Veda Beach, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. He donated his body to the University of Cincinnati Department of Anatomy. Memorials: Madison Avenue Christian Church, 1530 Madison Ave., Covington, KY 41011.

Donald Kincaid Donald Farris Kincaid, 85, of Hebron, died July 25. The U.S. Army veteran served in the Korean conflict and was a member of Sand Run Baptist Church. He enjoyed collecting guns and knives. His daughter, Robin Marie Kincaid; and granddaughter, Lindsey Hojnocki, died previously. Lyman Oliver Lyman R. Oliver, 85, of Florence, died July 26 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. He was a chief warrant officer in the U.S. Coast Guard for more than 20 years and was a member of the Military Officers Association and the First Church of Christ in Burlington. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include his wife, Lois Fay Oliver; son, Rev. David R. Oliver; daughter, Peggy Oliver Kennedy; and three grandchildren along with two great-grandchildren. Burial was at Burlington Cemetery.

Nettie Retzius Nettie Corrine Retzius, 92, of Florence, died July 24 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Fort Thomas.

She was a member of Hopeful Lutheran Church and Rosie Reds. Her husband, Elmer Retzius; as well as several brothers and sisters, died previously. Survivors include her son, William Retzius of Florence; daughter, Rebecca Schnorbus of Elsmere; and two grandchildren. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Jack Sayers Jack L. Sayers, 78, of Burlington, died in the care of Hospice of Bluegrass on July 23. He retired from Ford Development Corp. and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18. His brothers Russell and Thomas Sayers died previously. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Rohling Sayers of Burlington; son, Todd L. Sayers of Union; daughters Alice M. Sayers and Amanda Hoerst, both of Burlington; sister, Mary Jane Richter of Maineville, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Jack Rouse Jack Rouse, 85, of Walton, died July 23 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Florence. He was a retired sheet metal worker in Union 141 for United Sign Company and was a member of Walton Christian Church and a Walton Cemetery board member. He was a former volunteer firefighter in Walton. He enjoyed building custom furniture and muzzle loading rifles as he was a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and the Kentucky Corps of Long Riflemen.
