SCHOOL NOTES William Bick Primary School will hold kindergarten and pre-school registrations from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, and Thursday, Feb. 11. Registration is for kindergartners 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2010, and pre-schoolers ages 3 to 5. Parents should bring to the registration: Birth certificate with seal, shot records, child’s Social Security card, proof of residency (utility bill, lease agreement, etc.) and, if necessary, proof of custody. Chelsea Davis, of Bethel, has been named the grand prize runnerup in the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission’s (ORSANCO) 16th annual River Sweep Poster Contest.

A junior at Bethel-Tate High School, Davis will receive a $250 U.S. Savings Bond. The River Sweep is an annual riverbank cleanup held along the Ohio River and its major tributaries. More than 2,000 entries were made to the contest.
Scholarships
Kathy R. Howison and Christie M. Howison, both of Bethel, have each received a $12,500 Wilmington College Achievement Award. The award distribution amount is based on the cumulative high school grade point average and ACT/SAT composite score. It is awarded upon acceptance to Wilmington College, regardless of need. Both students, daughters of John and Sandy Howison, will be 2010 graduates of Bethel-Tate High School. Kathy plans to major in art education; Christie plans to major in psychology.

Help available for financial aid applications The YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and WIZF are partnering to take the complication out of applying for financial assistance toward college. The partnership will host two free events Feb. 14 – one at the Carl H. Lindner YMCA and the other at Cincinnati State – to help teenage and adult students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA). It’s all part of the statewide Ohio College Goal Sunday. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. volunteers will be available to work with students in filling out the FAFSA required for
all federal aid programs, and many state and institutional aid programs. More information can be found at www.fafsa.gov. Students will need to bring the following: • Student’s IRS 1040 tax return and W2s. • Student’s parent’s IRS 1040 tax return and W2s. • Student’s Social Security Card and driver’s license. • Any other benefit and income information.
