CFS Grad Part of GrantWinning Team At Drexel Several CFS faculty members heard from Abe Crook ’09, who is beginning his sophomore year at Drexel University. He has been working in a research lab at Drexel, and was part of a project team that won a $75K grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. At the EPA’s National Sustainable Design Expo, held in Washington, D.C. this past spring, the team presented its proposal to convert slag, a refinery waste product, into cement building material. This process can have a very positive environmental impact by reducing both atmospheric carbon and refinery waste. Abe sees this project as the basis for future academic and career opportunities. He said in an email: “I not only want to show you all that I am accomplishing in my freshmen year, but also to thank you. You have taught me so much, not just as teachers, but as mentors, idols, and friends. Thank you so much for all you have given me. Do not worry, this is not the last time you will be hearing of my accomplishments!”
