RISE AND GLIDE Last winter Filip and his friends skied every day and the weather was perfect for the entire trip. Skiing in Norway was incredibly popular and senior Filip Flatby was not as good as his friends. “I went on a trip to my friend’s winter cabin at a place called Kvitfjell which is known for its skiing facilities,” Flatby said. photo courtesy of f. flatby

Imagine being a new student at school. Add in a new family and a new country. Sounds like a challenge and an adventure.

Three students accepted the challenge and spent a year living and learning in Conifer.

Senior Filip Flatby from Norway and sophomores Sofia Marina and Laurenz Von Bock from Spain and Germany, respectively, told their stories.

“The school is much better here than in Spain,” Marina said.

The school system was different in Spain so being here made her feel more comfortable. She adjusted to the United States and learned a lot

about how school and life works in America.

“Both the students and the teachers at the school are nice and have been very welcoming to me,” Flatby said. Even though he was a senior here, he still had another year to go in Norway.

In Germany, students stayed with the same class the whole day and Bock had to adjust to how things are done here.

“The teachers are so nice here that whenever I had a problem, they come to me and help me,” Bock said.

As a new student, sophomore Laurenz Von Bock liked how the people here welcomed him. He made really good friends here very quickly. “I miss my friends and family back in Germany,” Bock said.

TOWN HALL Did you know that Rathuas in German means a seat in the executive government? Sophomore Laurenz Von Bock was at the town hall in Germany. “We have a big German breakfast culture thing which is different than the American way,” Bock said. photo by l. bock

“My brother is only four years old, but we are really close and have a great bond. I love spending time with him, and even though he can be annoying sometimes, he is also really funny. used to spend a lot of time watching over him, especially when my parents needed a break or were working during the evening. We went on a walk and explored the nearby area, because we actually moved only a couple of months before traveled to the U.S.”
