lives. Architecture in essence should serve to serve. Architecture should act as a communication device between the end-user of that space and their environment and the end-user and the architect. NORMATIVE STANCE Following a three year introduction to the application of good design and conscious design ethics in the field of architecture, I have come to a deepened understanding of who I am as a designer. Architecture cannot stand independent of the environment it is built in. It cannot isolate itself from the needs of those who inhabit its internal spaces or surrounding spaces. It must act, once again, as a identifiable tool by which those who utilise it, utilise it well. Architecture therefore needs to have a bottom-up approach. Architecture therefore needs to understand the community it serves first before it can understand its standing in the greater whole. Regional understanding of the client and/or community is of utmost importance in design and architecture.
