Compact and entertaining presentation of Basel's history from the Neanderthals to the present day. Around 200,000 people from 200 nations live in Basel. The city is the centre of a large trinational region with a long history. Leaps in Time provides a compact overview of the events and developments that have shaped the city and region. The most important testimonies to the city's history, as well as everyday and surprising objects, lead through time – starting with the earliest human traces and ending with things of the present. City views, plans, models and historical photographs provide an in-depth look at the rapid transformation of the city between 1850 and 1950. The most recent contemporary history is examined on the basis of six main themes, including the relationship between the canton Basel-Stadt and Baselland, immigration and migration, the importance of the pharmaceutical industry and the way space and nature are handled. Two language editions: German and English.
