One of the most important issues confronting the art world is the interface between gender and politics. This one-day course will discuss how artists, both male and female, address the troubles, pleasures, and politics of gender by examining the work of artists such as Marina Abramović, Cindy Sherman, Matthew Barney, Hito Steyerl, Bruce Nauman, Ruby Sterling as well as many others. This course explores this topic in depth through lectures delivered by associate professor Ágnes Berecz, followed by site visits to a museum or gallery to view these works on display.
