Introduction Through Life Groups you can become a part of the CLA family by connecting with peers to experience a deeper relationship with God and each other. At Christian Life Assembly, we believe that a Life Group is the best place for sustained life change to occur. This is the place where authentic relationships, spiritual transformation, service and missions are developed in the lives of group members. Life Groups provide you with the vital connections necessary for your spiritual journey. Life Groups are how we organize any small group of people who meet regularly to grow in their Christian walk and to build meaningful relationships. This fall we are offering a variety of Life Groups from which to choose, including Sunday morning classes, Wednesday night classes, Geographical and Lifestage home groups, Women’s Bible Studies and Support Groups, Men’s, Young Adult and Youth groups and Children’s classes.

How To Use This Catalog

Read over each small group description and then pray where God wants to place you during the fall semester. Choose the topics and days that will best meet your current spiritual needs. Begin going to the small group at the first possible meeting.

The fall semester begins Wednesday, September 3

Love God. Love People. Change the World. 3

Vision And Purpose Three functions of a Life Group - “Doing Life Together” Authentic Relationships - “A Place to Connect”

A Life Group is a safe place where authentic relationships are built; a place to gather, not just study together and know each other, but to also enjoy life together outside of group study. A place where people share life together in good times and bad, as friends in Christ, providing each other with encouragement, strength, confidence and joy.

Spiritual Transformation - “A Place to Grow”

A Life Group is a place where spiritual transformation happens in the life of each group member. Members are transformed as they apply Biblical truths to their lives through prayer, life-changing lessons, discussions and accountability.

Servanthood & Mission - “A Place to Serve”

Every member is a minister! Each of us is shaped to serve. Life Groups encourage service opportunities in the church and in the community. Serving together builds up the body of Christ and enhances personal growth as a follower of Christ. Having a missions-oriented mindset is crucial in a Life Group. Inviting new people into your group, reaching for your family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors for Christ are ways to fulfill the mission of your group. There are many different types of Life Groups within our church. Each has a specific vision and strategic role to play in fulfilling the overall purpose of the church. Enjoy the adventure!

Breakthrough Christianity

Bible

This semester, Pastor Tom Britton will take members of this class on a spiritual journey of building faith through a variety of challenges and spiritual themes. Each week, we will explore a different topic as we search the Bible for reasons to step up our pursuit of God. God loves it when we long for Him; when we look for Him in our quest to become like Him. The usual outcome when we pursue Him with passion is that He ends up catching us and transforming our lives in the process. He then uses those transformed lives to change the world around us. Come and join us as we look for a fresh way to approach the Throne of Grace each week. Time/Day: 9:15 AM Sundays Location: Room 704 Teacher: Pastor Tom Britton

New Christian Class

If you are a new Christian or have recently rededicated your life to Christ, you may be asking, “What do I do now? Well, we have a class that is designed especially for you! Please join us as we discuss important, foundational biblical truths that will help you to enjoy a truly meaningful and satisfying relationship with Jesus Christ. This class is about real life and how our trust in God can be applied practically in our daily circumstances and in our difficulties in life. We look forward to meeting you. Time/Day: 9:15 AM Sundays Location: Room 702 Teachers: Carl and Jo Shank

Disciplemakers

The Disciplemakers class is an outreach-oriented class touching others in a variety of ways with interest and involvement in prison ministry and foreign missions. We have a strong prayer emphasis within the group and minister to one another as well. There will be a brief overview/summary presented of the books of the New Testament. Join us as our faith grows stronger together in the Word reaching others for Christ. Time/Day: 10:15 AM Sundays Location: Room 304 Teachers: George Clauser and Dan Frost

Practical Christian Living

This is a great class that has been experiencing God in daily living. We are studying I Corinthians 12-14 on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is our desire to know what we believe and why we believe it…and to then apply it to our lives. You have an opportunity to ask that question you always wanted to ask. Join us! Time/Day: 10:15 AM Sundays Location: Room 631 Teacher: Fred Schoppe

Forever Young (55+) - Book of Acts

Have you ever wondered what the early church was like-the Apostolic Church? How did it grow so fast-so fast that it was said it “turned the world upside down”? How close are we to being like that early church? Come learn with us as we study the Book of Acts. A quarterly lesson guide is the class resource and discussion is the preferred format. The Bible is our focus, with practical applications for life’s needs as seniors. With many veterans of the faith, there are some wonderful insights. Come and join in the dialogue, or just sit and enjoy. For you, too, this class may become a habit. Time/Day: 10:15 AM Sundays Location: Room 704 Teacher: Dick Malone

The Journey - Heaven

This is an eight-week study of heaven that will seek to answer most of the questions people have about our eternal home. Things like: What will we be like? What will we do? How will we interact with God? These and many more similar questions will be asked, discussed, and answered from a biblical point of view. The goal of the course is to help believers understand why heaven is more than just a better destination than hell. What a glorious promise is Heaven! Welcome to the class! Time/Day: 10:15 AM Sundays Location: Room 702 Teacher: Jim Hoffman

7

Friends in Faith - The Book of Daniel

Daniel and Revelation are books of prophesy. Revelation, our prior study, is limited to two characters, John and Jesus. Daniel has a cast of characters. Our study of Daniel will include a look into the characters, their faith, their roles and backgrounds as well as prophesies and the modern day interpretations of them. We will also compare the various dreams and visions with those of other Old Testament prophets where a connection can be made. The class always opens with prayer requests and prayer for the needs that are expressed. Study using excerpts from modern day reference material is always interesting with the class participation that develops. Come and be a part of our Life Group! Time/Day: 10:15 AM Sundays Location: Room 706 Teacher: Charlie Junkins

Home Builders (40s through 60s) - Bible Study - TBD

We will have an in-depth Bible study that will encourage you to get the good news of the Gospel out to all who are hurting and searching. We will tackle a study that will guide and relate to life today and learn about what happens when we understand God’s plan for our life, and how we can prepare to receive His future plan for us. Come join us! All are welcome. Time/Day: 10:15 AM Sundays Location: Room 634 Teachers: Steve and Wendy Forry

Holy Spirit - Intro to the Holy Spirit

We all come from different backgrounds; each of us has different ideas that give unique perspectives on The Holy Spirit and His ministry. Some may view the work of The Holy Spirit with great excitement and anticipation while others may have great concern or reservation. Come and let’s explore what the Bible has to say concerning the Person and Ministry of the Holy Spirit. Time/Day: 7:00 PM Wednesdays Location: Room 632 Teacher: Rev. Shane Wilson

What the Bible Says

Someone once said, “The more I learn about God, the better He looks.” This is a course designed to provide more than a basic understanding of the major doctrines on the Bible. Among the class topics will be theology (God), soteriology (Jesus), angelogy (angels), and eschatology (the end times). Don’t let the big words keep you away; the class is designed for lay people who want more than the basics. Join us for twelve weeks of lecture and discussion. Time/Day: 7:00 PM Wednesdays Location: Room 702 Teacher: Jim Hoffman 8

Daniel: Spiritual-Living in a Secular World

Many people today have a problem living their spiritual life in a secular world. The book of Daniel gives us a practical and personal help with this struggle. He was a man who rose to a position of great influence and prestige in the world system, but who never compromised essential biblical principles. He shows us how to live a life of spiritual integrity in the crush of a secular world. We will get into the historical framework of his life, as well as, focus on his life for God. Lastly, we will get into the future with Daniel and his visions for “what is to come,” a world that we have not yet seen. Time/Day: 7:00 PM Wednesdays Location: Room 704 Teacher: Pastor Ron Smith

The Truth Project

In a recent study, The Barna Research Group revealed a stunning statistic that continues to reverberate throughout the evangelical world-only nine percent of professing Christians have a biblical worldview. Because of this, today’s believers live very similarly to non-believers. A personal sense of significance is rarely experienced, we spend our money and time on things that fail to satisfy, and begin to wonder what life’s ultimate purpose really is. We are, in short, losing our bearings as a people and a nation. The Truth Project is a DVDbased small group curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life. We invite you to be a part of this culture change by participating in this class. Contact Emily at 717-635-7228 for additional details. Time/Day: 7:00 PM Wednesdays Location: Coffee Café Teachers: Pastor Jim Schambach and Curt Harris

Under Cover by John Bevere

God promises us His protection under His authority. John Bevere takes us into the Word and shows us how to have victory with God’s protection! Are you submitted to divine authority? John reveals this great gift of submission to God’s authority. Come join us for this 12-week in-depth study. You will be blessed. Time/Day: 7:00 PM Wednesdays Location: Room 634 Teacher: Steve Forry

Family Life Marriage Matters: Parental Guidance Required

Of all the assignments God will give you during your time on earth, none may be more sacred than the task of raising your children. The Parental Guidance class is designed to give you the counsel you need to help prepare your children for the future. Parental Guidance Required is a practical resource that will encourage you to look at the relationships in your children’s lives and ask the important questions: • Am I developing a quality relationship with my child that will go the distance? • Am I striving to control the influence that friends have in my child’s life? • Am I nurturing a healthy eternal perspective that will help my child to weather the storms of life? Asking the right questions is the key to helping you assess your family’s needs and ensure that the influence you have is one that will last a lifetime. Time/Day: 9:15 AM Sundays Location: Women’s Plaza Teachers: Pastor Bob & Joyce Kapp Dates: September. 7-October 12 (6 Weeks) Workbook Cost: $7.50

Joint Venture (20s and 30s)

Our group mainly consists of couples with children in the infant, elementary, and pre-teen years. One of our main goals is to connect and build relationships/friendships with other couples/families who are in the same stage of life. We want to help encourage, share ideas with, and pray for one another as we’re on this parenting adventure. Generally, our topic of discussion is based on the sermon. We take time to read and study the scripture passages that were referenced during the sermon and discuss the sermon points and notes in greater detail. Future topics of discussion may include Bible studies or video series on more specific or relevant topics, as our group feels so led. Time/Day: 10:15 AM Sundays Location: Room 302 Teachers: Steve and Christina Becker

The groups also provide a safe accountability structure in a confidential setting here on our campus. The main benefit of the groups is to provide a supportive faith based environment for working through some of life’s most difficult issues. The “Truth Project”

In a recent study, the Barna Research Group revealed a stunning statistic that continues to reverberate throughout the evangelical world—only nine percent of professing Christians have a biblical worldview. Because of this, today’s believers live very similarly to non-believers. A personal sense of significance is rarely experienced, we spend our money and time on things that fail to satisfy, and begin to wonder what life’s ultimate purpose really is. Sponsored by Focus on the Family, Dr. Del Tackett teaches lessons that discuss in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life. Contact Carol at 717-766-2240 for more information. Time: 6:30-8:30 PM Location: Women’s Plaza Teachers: Carol Hummel & Team Free nursery registration provided for Tuesday Morning Break and Tuesday Evening Bibles Study.
