Policy 6210 TEACHING ABOUT CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES The Board recognizes that the discussion of controversial issues is important to develop student understanding and analytical thought. Prior to the initiation of planned discussion about any subject, which might generally be considered sensitive or controversial, a teacher should seek the guidance and counsel of the Principal. The Board recognizes the possibility of criticism or alleged charges, which may occur against teachers acting in compliance with this policy. Therefore, the Director General shall develop appropriate procedures, which will allow parents of the school community to challenge within orderly procedures, controversial materials or issues, which they feel, are inappropriate in the classroom.
