Magnificent Thurible

Magnificent thurible for incense, modeled after the great swinging thurible in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela (pictured on next page).

$500,000

This magnificent thurible, known in Italian as a “botafumeiro,” will hang from the center of the transept tower ceiling. On major feast days, it will be filled with incense and then swung back and forth, in front of the stunning marble High Altar and Altar of Sacrifice. This thurible is modeled after the original botafumeiro in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela (pictured on next page). The Christ the King Chapel thurible will stand at 5’1” tall and will have Gothic details, matching the rest of the chapel’s design, as seen in the sketch pictured on the next page.

Renowned artist Henry Wingate will paint two original oil paintings of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music, and St. Gregory, the patron saint of musicians. These paintings will be approximately 6’4” x 2’6”.

Dedication for $100,000 includes (2 available):

1. Approximately 5”x2” brass inscription plaque with choice of individual or family memorial dedication inscription near the location of the painting.

Custom Stonework Dedication Crosses

These 7” round, handcrafted crosses are made from various pieces of marble used throughout the chapel. Common to each cross is the use of a marble central cross made from marble blessed by Pope Benedict for the cornerstone. These are then combined with the marble used in four other locations in the chapel, making each cross a unique work of art. These crosses are mounted below the four dedication candles that will be blessed by the bishop during the chapel dedication ceremony.

Piazza of Christ the King

The final stage of exterior construction will be the building of a beautiful piazza to grace the chapel entrance. The “Piazza of Christ the King” will provide a noble gathering space for the community-centered campus life that flows from the chapel. The piazza will extend the spiritual life of the chapel onto campus and serve as a tangible reminder that every aspect of our life is infused with devotion to Jesus Christ.

The piazza will be built from beautifully masoned stone, with outer walls and tiles surrounding a great pillar topped by a statue of Christ the King. The new chapel will provide a setting that unites the academic and spiritual character of Christendom. The piazza will give to our campus a wonderful permanent outdoor area for students to come together in joyful festivity, prayer, and study with the glory of the angels and Christ the King surrounding them.

Reverent Adoring Angels

As a constant reminder of Our Lord’s great Sacrifice on the Cross, six angels will sit in the Piazza of Christ the King holding the instruments of Christ’s Passion. Two angels holding the symbols of Christ’s Kingship—the Subscription and the Crown of Thorns—will stand in the niches at the front of the chapel while the other four angels will each adorn one corner of the piazza holding the cross, the column and whips, the garment and dice, and the sponge and lance.
