Low energy SIPs house ‘riding’ on Thermoblock A regional developer specialising in very low energy and PassivHaus projects is making use of the Thermoblock structural insulation for the first time as part of a bespoke SIPs construction for a client in the East Riding of Yorkshire. On its most recent project near York, RM Developments is creating a spacious two-storey family home where instead of blockwork or timber frame, the main loadbearing walls are all formed of SIPs – Structural Insulated Panels. These are located on top of the beam and block oversite whose ends are carried by a course of the Marmox Thermoblocks in order to prevent heat loss at the critical wall/floor junction.
Thermoblock offers the right formula The construction of an advanced new testing facility for motor sport engines in Wales features the use of Marmox Thermoblocks at ground floor level, specified in order to help comply with the latest
edition of Part L to the Building Regulations. The Sports Engine Testing Facility at the University of South Wales Pontrypridd is being built by Willmott Dixon Construction Limited working as main contractor. While the 1000m2, two-storey structure utilises a steel frame, the exterior walls are being raised in cavity blockwork with the Marmox Thermoblocks in two different thicknesses subtending both the inner and outer leaf.
Marmox SoundBoard proves ideal choice A contractor specialising in underfloor heating systems has made extensive use of Marmox SoundBoards on a challenging project to join two Thameside apartments to create an 11-room property. Despite having a modern, framed construction fitted out to a very high standard, there was a significant difference in height between the proposed floor finishes one of timber one of stone and wanting to employ as few wet trades as possible within the occupied building, Gaia opted to utilise two different thicknesses of Marmox SoundBoard across the existing surfaces in order to create a “level playing field” – over which the DEVI electric heating system could be laid.

Thermoblock specified for Passivhaus project
for wetroom environments. In total Marmox supplied some 1000m2 of Multiboard in the 2500 x 600 (Longboard) and 1250 x 600 (Standard board) options; at 12.5 and 6mm thickness respectively. The joints between the boards were covered using Marmox self-adhesive waterproof tape which enables contractors to tile directly over the top; though in this instance the tilers opted to apply a thin skim of the adhesive across the entire surface.
A development of 25 new properties for a leading social housing provider, located close to Minehead on the Bristol Channel, is making use of Thermoblock from Marmox in order to meet the very stringent airtightness and insulation standards demanded under Passivhaus guidelines. Thermoblock is available in several widths from 100mm upwards to suit different wall constructions and features miniature columns of concrete encapsulated within high performance insulation. They can be used at upper floor levels and other locations as well as around the perimeter to the oversite. Each course of Thermoblock was bedded on mortar and jointed with Marmox Multibond, the manufacturer’s versatile one-part sealant and adhesive.

The excellent acoustic insulation properties of SoundBoard has restored peace and quiet in an exclusive West London apartment building, where two flats were being knocked into one. As an experienced building and fit out contractor, LDB identified the Marmox SoundBoard as an ideal panel to use in overlaying the concrete subfloor, prior to installing electric underfloor heating coils. SoundBoard offers both acoustic and thermal insulation properties and helps prevent damage to cabling. This build up was then covered with high quality timber flooring in some rooms while marble tiles featured in the rest.
