MOVIES UNDER THE STARS
The Carlsbad Village Association will host its annual free Flicks at the Fountain, a weekly series of family-fun films at Carlsbad Village fountain at the corner of State Street and Grand Avenue. Film begin with “The Greatest Showman” July 5 at dusk, or around 8 p.m., and continue each Thursday evening until Aug. 9. Bring their lowbacked chairs, blankets and a picnic.

CALLING ALL DOG LOVERS
Cardiff Dog Days of Summer is coming, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at Encinitas Community Park, 425 Santa Fe Drive, Encinitas. This free event features more than 100 dog-related vendors, rescue groups, pet adoptions agencies, dog contests, live music, beer and wine garden, food trucks, activities for kids and a “Makers Market Row.”

LCYO 8U All Stars, Lily Barstad, Kat Weir, Addison Brown, Katie Hemerick, Rose Wendel, Addie Taufa, Nylah Vargo, Ceres Kunkel, Avery Pack, Charlotte Shelton, Kate McNamara and Kara Farley, became the USA softball Southern California district champions, beating Fallbrook, 4S Ranch, San Dieguito, Mira Mesa and San Marcos. The girls played five consecutive games in one day, and won them all, to claim the title of district champs. The team advances to state competition at the end of June.
