Dear Member Please find enclosed paperwork for this year’s Annual General Meeting to be held at Picton Castle on Wednesday, 2nd September 2009. 10.45 am start. Not just any AGM, this is a Pembrokeshire Tourism AGM – we invite you to meet the Board of Directors of YOUR Trade Association, and enjoy a complimentary brunch whilst chatting to the team, friends and colleagues. This will be followed by an introduction from David Evans, new Managing Director of Picton Castle, who will overview the Trustees plans and developments for the future, together with a guided walk around the gardens and house.

Pembrokeshire Tourism Association represents the trade, including accommodation providers, activity providers, pubs and restaurants, green tourism projects, arts and crafts galleries, camping and caravan sites etc. We are proud to currently have over 520 members at the grass roots of tourism. The organisation has a Board of 15 Directors working voluntarily in ensuring that all tourism trade sectors are represented. Full details of the AGM Agenda and voting papers are attached. If you are unable to attend in person as the season is still in full swing, just forward your voting paper by Monday 24 th August, 2009. In writing to you, it’s timely to give a quick reminder of your membership benefits. Firstly I would stress that if you are NOT receiving our e newsletter that you contact Liz in the office immediately, so we can check your e mail address. Secondly, if you do receive it that you OPEN it and READ it! This is our main source of regular communication with our membership, full of relevant information on legislative reforms, training, seminars events and all Supplier special offers.

We also produce an Autumn Winter Guide advertising activities which are open during


the shoulder periods. We see events as being key to developing packaged activities during these periods. Your membership gives a FREE business entry to our website, and FREE press release entry in our newsletter. Pembrokeshire Tourism offer subsidised training and development In statutory and non statutory areas, including health and safety, food hygiene, first aid and of course Croeso Cynnes and many others which we know help you to run your business more successfully, and profitably. Training is either free or highly subsidised through our training arm, “Gallu”. Log onto www.gallu.org.uk for further details. Pembrokeshire Tourism works in Partnership With many organisations including local authorities, trade associations, British Hospitality Association, Wales Tourism Alliance. National Park Authorities to name a few. This helps us to offer you the very best up to date information and opportunities available and to ensure that there is as little duplication of effort and resources as possible. Pembrokeshire Tourism work closely with Visit Wales, Welsh Assembly Government and other Statutory bodies. Pembrokeshire Tourism represents the South West Wales Regional tourism associations on a number of ministerial project groups, ensuring that trade representation is made at every level. If you have a problem or there is an issue, we make sure it’s heard, loudly in the right place. PT was instrumental in establishing the successful “Audience with Visit Wales Event”, and “Promoting Pembrokeshire Event” which attracted over 350 of the trade to these focussed tourism seminars. A recent Breakfast Seminar with Heritage Minister Alun Ffred Jones AM and other recent political tours with Conservative and Labour politicians have ensured that issues including Fire Legislation, Private Water Bill, taxation, investment and grant funding, and a range of others have been highlighted both within Westminster and the Welsh Assembly Government. Pembrokeshire Tourism constantly keeps you abreast of legislative changes and the impacts which they could have on your business. Such changes affecting tourism currently including the digital switchover, Fire Legislation, Rural Rates Relief to name but a few. Our “Don’t Get your Fingers Burnt” event was fully booked with 70 members, with our “Web Savvy” seminar attracting over 80 members and 26 trade exhibitors. Keeping you up to date with grant aid and financial support the “Financing Your Business” event attracted over 100 members and gave full details of ALL funding streams and support available for your business. Sadly if you haven’t been receiving your e newsletter or opening it, then you’ve really missed out on some fantastic member activity, so ensure that from TODAY on, your fully in communication with YOUR Trade Association. FREE Trade Day – Nordic Walking taster session and tour of Picton Castle, HAVERFORDWEST Book your place on this trade day and enjoy a taster session of Nordic Walking by Andrew Dugmore from Pembrokeshire Paths. Andrew is a qualified nordic walking instructor having been trained by the Welsh national coach Karen Ingram of British nordic walking and Barefoot Studio Wales. Andrew Dugmore of Pembrokeshire Paths (www.pembrokeshirepaths.co.uk) will be giving a 50 minute taster workshop to introduce the techniques of Nordic walking. What is nordic walking ? Nordic walking is a technique of walking that uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience. It is an excellent all over body exercise, using up to 45% more calories than normal walking and utilising up to 90% of the bodies' skeletal muscles. The nordic walking poles help to propel the walker along by actively utilising the upper body and making the actual walk feel easier! The great thing about nordic walking, is that it is for all ages and abilities, from children right up to the elderly, it provides benefits for everybody from those with medical problems right up to the super fit. Just come along to this free taster workshop and experience how Nordic walking can help you get fit and to learn to walk more efficiently. Wear light walking shoes or training shoes, comfortable clothing and a waterproof ( just in case ), poles will be provided. The exercise level will be gentle. Andrew is particularly happy to consider delivery of Nordic walking instruction to any interested groups or organisations. Following on from the taster session you will have a tour of Picton Castle. Picton Castle has been the historic home of the Philipps' family who are direct descendents of Sir John Wogan who built the Castle over 850 years ago. Picton Castle is open all year round for weddings and corporate events and during the summer there are guided tours of the Castle which still retains much of its original character. The 40 acres of gardens are open to the public. Part of the Royal Horticultural Society Regional Garden Scheme they are home to a feast of Rhododendrons, Embothrium and Eucryphia. The Woodland Gardens burst with colour during the spring with blankets of wild flowers blended with beautiful shrubs from all corners of the world. In the summer the restored walled garden with its enchanting fountain and fernery is a haven of tranquility. The art gallery is host to a variety of artist exhibitions and the events schedule is a popular feature of the Picton Castle calendar with garden lectures, open air theatre and family days being just some of the fun events on offer.
