201920 Annual Awards Tennis & Rackets

The Baerlein Cup is awarded to the best British amateur performance which goes to Tara Lumley based on her standout performances and consistency throughout the season. She is the doubles World Champion for both Rackets and Tennis.

The Greenwood Trophy is awarded to the most improved British player. William (Will) Flynn was chosen as the standout candidate and he achieved an incredible handicap ten-point drop from 25 to 15, as well as winning the Under 18 Open Championship.

The Warburg Salver is awarded to the best British professional performance. Ben Taylor-Matthews has been awarded the salver based on qualifying for the World Eliminator, resulting in a tight match with Chris Chapman at Melbourne, together with his general performances throughout the season. The Maltby Salver is awarded to the volunteer of the year and nobody gave more than the IiP Facilitator, John Whiting - see Page 39. His drive and ambition moved the project forward and encouraged others to participate.

The Negretti Award is awarded to the amateur, Tom Billings, who has shown the most success for the 19-20 season. The list of tournaments Tom has won and players he has beaten continues to rise. The crowning glory, of course, is to be recognized as the Rackets Worlds Champion – the pinnacle of the sport. The Lillibet Award is awarded to the lady who has exhibited the best performances over the year. Tara Lumley has been nominated after winning the Open Singles, the Open Doubles and the World Doubles in a single year. It is an incredible achievement – Well done Tara.

The Latham Award is awarded to the professional who has demonstrated the best performances over the last year. Ben Cawston’s performance in winning the Invitational Singles was arguably the best of all his achievements in 2019/20 His victory at the Professional Singles was a further highlight.

The Renny Award is awarded to the player who has shown the most improvement over the year. India Deakin has built on her Mixed Doubles Open win of 2019 and added the World Doubles in 2020, a fabulous achievement. She continues to develop her game and has also contributed to the growth of Ladies Rackets.
