Office Redesign Devon Outdoor Year 1

Office Concept Board Designed on Photoshop, this concept board reflects my ideas for the office re-design, for Devon Outdoor. I have included textures and natural inspiration to help provide the client with a more emotive concept. This board portrays the idea of being within nature and having a smoother transition between work and personal life.

Office Floor Plans & Elevations Designing the ground floor and first floor allowed me to be really creative with my plans. The first floor is a large office space with enough seating to cater for all members of staff. There are private office areas and more open collaborative spaces. Inspired by the River Tamar and the functionality of biophilia this office creates a dynamic and healthy working environment.

Spring / Summer 2020 Trend Prediction & Trend Research

Spring / Summer 2020 Prediction Spring/ Summer 2020 prediction mood board created on InDesign is inspired by the WGSN trend forecast but it focuses on more muted tones and imagery from the 70’s.

This mood board displays some of the popular trends within interior design that we have seen over the years. Some trends have seen a lot of people buying and using the same products for example the Eames plastic chair is found in a lot of homes and newer builds but now people are looking to stand out and have different items to everyone else. Upcycling and buying handcrafted pieces is becoming a more popular way of decorating your home because people can express their unique style and personalities.

Worst Trends within Interior Design Over the years, our homes have seen some debatable trends. Here is a selection of some of the very worst trends throughout time. All these trends have been tried and tested and therefore not lasted very long in the home. Most of these trends emerged during and around the 70s which is interesting to see because the 70s style is inspiring a lot of trends in the current day.

In this photo you can see a combination of some of the worst trends to ever come about, inflatable furniture, beaded curtains and decorative ceiling line borders. As well as bed canopies and the over use of pine wood. Around this photo are a selection of the very worst trends including carpeted bathrooms, round beds and plastic fruit.

Simply Natural

icker, plants and blankets have dominated the design world for quite some time now, but each year the trend develops further. Much like the Danish way of living, we are trying to bring more comfort into our home. Over the years we have seen Great Britain try to embrace the world of Hygge. “Hygge has been translated as everything from the art of creating intimacy to cosiness of the soul to taking pleasure from the presence of soothing things.” (Meik Wiking, ‘The Little Book of Hygge.’) However in our country although we do not quite fully understand the concept of Hygge, we have given it our best shot. Many homeowners began to bring in more candles, blankets and cushions thinking this was the answer to living like a Dane. There is no right or wrong but it is also not as simple as this. So in the last couple of years a more British take on Hygge has come into play and we can see that this trend is not leaving for quite some time yet. Scandinavian design is as popular now as it was when it hit our market some five years ago and we can see an evolution in this mass trend that has led

the consumer to use more natural and less harmful products. The importance of using products that are not damaging to the environment are always on the rise. We are beginning to see the consumer take into consideration what products they want to have in their home, slowly making changes to their purchases to try and do their bit for the environment. This upcoming trend takes the idea of Hygge, Scandinavian Modern and Sustainability and mixes them to produce ‘Simply Natural’. This trend focuses on using less damaging plastics or non-recyclable items. More people are beginning to visit local farm shops and health stores to buy their produce. This can include taking your own glass containers to the shop to refill on dried goods or taking reusable plastic bottles to top up on shampoo. As well as introducing more sustainable ways of shopping you will see a rise in healthy home cooking and making the daily task less of a chore and more of a chance to spend time with the family or to teach the children to cook. ‘Simply Natural’ is about taking moments with your loved ones without feeling the need to spend a lot of money, whether that be making cookies together or watching a film in the evening. The home will feel calm, comfy and chilled, a place to relax, be with one another, kick your feet up and press pause on the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Why not light a candle, cosy up with blankets and fill the room with positive, relaxing vibes? This trend will bring more subtle colours into the home, reinventing beige, adding a touch of green in the form of flora and seeing a decline of the infamous grey. You will

also see the use of texture brought in by the soft furnishings and accessories. Some accessories may include more artisan pieces such as locally sourced, handmade vases or bowls. There has been a rise in supporting local creative businesses and that is still on the up. Due to our awareness of our World’s environmental decline we are beginning to move away from buying such mass produced products and this is subsequently supporting our local makers. So next time you are out in a large shop consider whether you should buy a more unique and long lasting product from a small creative instead. Not only will you be helping a small business to grow and purchasing a more Earth friendly product, you will also be adding a beautiful hand crafted item to your home.

“THIS UPCOMING TREND TAKES THE IDEA OF HYGGE, SCANDINAVIAN MODERN AND SUSTAINABILITY AND MIXES THEM TO PRODUCE ‘SIMPLY NATURAL’.”
