CHIPPE WA FALLS AREA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRIC T

Tons of Opportunities, more thingsto love!

The Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District is one of western Wisconsin’s largest and most innovative school districts with more than 5,000 students. Our students enjoy highly trained and dedicated staff, cutting-edge

educational programming, and the support of strong parent and community partnerships. Students in our school district have access to expansive academic programming, Division 1 co-curricular opportunities, and award winning fine arts.

What is Governance?

Governance is a framework for the School Board to do its work, and to express clear expectations for organizational performance. High-performing Boards have a number of key characteristics in organizational excellence. They focus on outcomes, have a long-term vision, and create a culture of excellence at the policy level. Excellence in Board work also means systematically monitoring for results and organizational alignment.

As publicly-elected Board officials, one of the most important responsibilities of Board members is to communicate with the community. This ongoing dialogue is a whole-board function that creates opportunities for understanding among stakeholder groups and ensures open

discussion that informs Board members about the expectations of the community. The framework of governance establishes this Board responsibility in policy. The fast-paced environment of school reform may at times be confusing. The Board’s commitment to developing as a single-unit of control is more important than ever. As a part of Board governance, the Board annually sets a Board development calendar in order to make certain the Board is knowledgeable about current educational trends. The Board is the most important decision-making group of a school district. Governance is a legacy initiative that ensures consistent support of the school district’s vision.

Governance FOR EXCELLENCE

Governance allows for the Board to clearly communicate these operational expectations and results policies to school district staff, and as a part of the Board-developed annual work plan, they monitor all results and operational expectation policies. In the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District, we have worked hard for system alignment between the community’s expectations, the Board’s expectations, and the administration and staff’s important work as we continue our journey to Educational Excellence for a Changing Tomorrow!

Governance for Excellence is a results-oriented framework used by the Board to ensure a system focus on our school district’s vision and results policies. Both our school district’s vision and our results policies are based on authentic community feedback. Through our Community Conversations, we have opened up clear lines of communication with community stakeholders, and we have embraced community feedback and embedded it into our operational expectations and results policies.
