Childhood Leukemia Foundation

For over 25 years, the Childhood Leukemia Foundation has been a beacon of hope and change in the lives it has touched. The organization was started by Executive Director Barbara Haramis, whose journey began with a single act of kindness. It all started when Barbara visited her sister at medical school and was told of a five-year-old boy courageously fighting leukemia. The boy's parents, burdened by medical bills, could rarely be by his side. He only had one simple wish—a Nintendo Gameboy to pass the time. Although Barbara couldn't cure his illness, she could brighten his days by gifting him the coveted Gameboy. At that moment, the concept of the Childhood Leukemia Foundation was born. From that day forward, Barbara dedicated herself to making a difference in the lives of young cancer patients. She embarked on the mission of building a nonprofit organization from the ground up, to offer support in the day-to-day battles faced by children battling various forms of cancer.
