Severe Weather Potential
June 12, 2013 1400 hrs
SITUATION EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT STATUS EVENT SUMMARY: Shower and thunderstorm activity will be possible today and Thursday across Virginia. While there is a slight risk of isolated severe weather Wednesday afternoon and evening, 12 June, across most of Virginia, the main threat of widespread severe weather will be Thursday late morning through late evening, 13 June.
SITUATION
WEATHER FORECAST Severe storms that develop Wednesday afternoon and evening will be capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall. Main threats from severe storms this afternoon and evening, according to the Storm Prediction Center, are damaging winds (15% probability) and hail (15% probability). There is a 2% probability of tornadoes this afternoon and evening. Potential impacts are power outages, downed trees, and locally flash flooding
Severe storms that develop Thursday will be capable of producing damaging straight line winds, 70 mph or greater, golf ball size hail, locally heavy rainfall, and isolated tornadoes. Storms are forecast to be quick moving and impact Southwest and West Central Virginia, late Thursday morning through late afternoon, Northwest and Northern Virginia, early afternoon through late evening, and Central and Eastern Virginia, early afternoon through late evening. Potential impacts are power outages, downed trees, and structural damage.
