Eskew welcomes back returns five letterwinners from last season squad that includes three starters and add six newcomers who will be called upon to help the Green and White compete in the Great West Conference.
Setter Senior Hanya Minta (Eden Prairie, Minn.) looks to become CSU’s all-time leader in assists as she ranks third on the school’s career list heading into her fourth season as the team’s starter at setter. Hale recorded averages of 1.63 digs and 0.69 kills in her first season with the Green and White in addition to recording six kills against Texas-Pan American and 10 digs versus North Dakota. Maziveyi produced a team-leading 29 service aces on the season while ranking second in kills (102 – 1.32 kps) and blocks (24 – 0.31 bps). The Jacoby D. Dickens Physical Education and Athletics Center The Chicago State University Athletics Building was built in 1971 and dedicated in 1995 as the Jacoby D. Dickens Physical Education and Athletics Center (JDC). Jacoby Dickens is a renowed businessman in the Chicago area. Inside the Jacoby D. Dickens Center is a 2,500-seat gymnasium, three swimming pools, including one that was recently renovated, a fitness center, eight locker rooms, three classrooms, a dance studio and an auxiliary, multipurpose gymnasium. The offices for the baseball and volleyball coaching staffs are also located on the main floor of the JDC. In addition to the athletics using the JDC, the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) is also headquartered in the building. The HPER Department has a physiology lab inside the building and utilizes the fitness center for the training of Physical Education majors on campus. During the winter months, the CSU baseball and track teams utilize the gym for preseason practice. The track teams train on the indoor track to encircles the arena on the second floor, while the baseball team practices on the main floor. The Great West Conference
Chicago State volleyball enters its second year as a member of the Great West Conference this fall after spending three years as an NCAA Division I Independent program. The Great West entered a new chapter in its short history in July 2008 when it expanded from a football-only conference to an all-sports conference after inviting three D-I independent schools (NJIT, Texas-Pan American, Utah Valley) and three schools currently transitioning to D-I status (Houston Baptist, North Dakota, South Dakota) to join the conference. CSU later joined the Great West in October 2008 as the conference’s seventh member. During the 2008-09 season, the Great West conducted championship events in Cross Country, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, and Outdoor Track and Field. Baseball, basketball, volleyball, softball, women’s tennis and women’s soccer opened league play during the 2009-10 school year. The volleyball alignment for the Great West will be a 12-match schedule with home-and-home series for all seven teams which will precede the second-annual Great West Conference Championship that will be hosted by CSU at the Emil and Patricia Convocation Center on Nov. 19-21.
