22nd July – 20th August –
The Observer (on Wind in the Willows and Romeo and Juliet)
‘Tis pity love should be so contrary’ Shakespeare’s first play is also his most wildly passionate, an exuberant comedy of love charting the twists and turns of the faithful and the fickle as the city’s entanglements untangle in the forest. Four young lovers on their gapyear chase each other across Italy, confused by their own adolescent desires, cross-dressing disguises, a band of singing outlaws and a roguish clown with a scamp of a dog. This bad-mannered comedy about what it feels like to be young is bursting with joy, love and sunkissed madness.
Directed by Philip Wilson 1st July – 21st August –
‘ Who ever loved that loved not at first sight?’ Forced out of court and unable to declare their love, Rosalind and Orlando find themselves in exile in the glorious Forest of Arden. Along with a host of shepherds, courtiers and country folk they are caught up in a swirling kaleidoscope of love and lust amongst the greenery. But in this enchanted forest, love’s magic has the power to transform more than this young couple…

Love Storyhouse? Want to help bring new ideas to life?
Storyhouse is for everyone. What will you do with it?
Storyhouse is a new home for inspiring stories in the heart of Cheshire, run by the producers of the Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre, Chester Music and Literature Festivals and Moonlight Flicks. Storyhouse is a house like no other. Carved out of Chester’s beloved 1936 Odeon cinema, it uniquely integrates an inspirational library, state of the art theatres, a boutique cinema, a café and bar. Storyhouse is a creative hub for inspiration and innovation. The country’s largest regional arts project under construction, this transforms Chester’s cultural landscape.
As a registered charity, Storyhouse depends on the generosity of its audiences as it strives to produce the very best in creative programming. Storyhouse has ambitious plans lined up and regular gifts allow for future planning.
Storyhouse’s theatres are unique: through the summer months and again at Christmas time, Storyhouse makes work for an intimate 500 seat thrust stage. In the spring and autumn, the theatre will be transformed into an 800 seat proscenium stage, presenting the finest international dance, drama and opera. The boutique cinema, suspended in a unique ‘lightbox’, screens the best in mainstream and independent film. The studio theatre acts as a creative hub for learning, training and talent development, and as a catalyst for community innovation. At the centre of Storyhouse is an inspirational library. This is a place where new ideas come to life, and to imagine new futures. Storyhouse will stand as a major hub for exploration and discovery. It will be a place where new talent is nurtured and new cultural enterprise encouraged.
