Manor trounce KwaDukuza Primary WEEKLY REPORTER

TANGER Manor Primary School trounced KwaDukuza Primary School by 4 wickets in the final of the 2016 edition of the Shivendra Velan memorial six-a-side cricket tournament hosted by Manor on Wednesday. KwaDukuza Primary lost the toss and were made to bat first by their opponents. The visitors came into the game boasting a nail-biting victory against Ashram in the semi-finals and were hoping to notch up back-to-back victories in the competition in the hope of retaining the KO Cup. KwaDukuza got off to a slow start, posting just two runs from the first over in their allotted 5 overs. They piled on the pressure in the 2nd over adding a further 11 runs to their tally. With all five wickets intact at the midway of their innings, everyone expected them to go on the attack in the hope of putting quick runs on the scoreboard. But, they played straight into the hands of their opponents after scoring just two runs from the 3rd over. With two overs remaining and KwaDukuza Primary posting a moderate 15/0 in their first three overs it was time for some action from their openers. They put on 9 runs in the penultimate over and were hoping to go at full throttle in the last 6 deliveries of the match. The KwaDukuza Primary openers frustrated the Manor attack taking

their tally from 24/0 to 36/0 at the end of their allotted 5 overs. Coach of the Manor outfit, Isaac Abraham was content with the performance of his bowlers and fielders and the run-chase of 37 was within their grasp. His instruction to the openers, Nceba Hoto and Kevlin Naidoo, was to ensure a minimum of 6 runs per over (which equates to run a ball). But, Hoto didn’t waste time, sending the first ball way over the boundary for a huge 6, which brought a sigh of relief for the Manor lads. But, KwaDukuza Primary had the last laugh after Nceba was clean bowled in the 2nd ball of the match putting pressure upon the home team. The loss the early wicket did not trouble the Manor lads, who went about their chasing their target in a business-like manner, crushing their rivals by 4 wickets with more than 2 overs to spare. The

ILEMBE Cricket Club walked away win ners once again after beating Dawn heights at Siripat Ground this weekend. Dawnheights won the toss and de cided to bat first on a tricky Siripat pitch. Dawnheights decision to bat backfired as they could on only compile a paltry 91/8 in 20 overs. Ilembe bowlers were at their miserly best as they removed Dawnheights top 5 batsmen for 28 runs. D. Rautenbach now batting for the other side was the stand out batsmen for Dawnheights posting 37 (not out), he was supported by A. Maharaj with 11. Top bowler for Ilembe was C. Shange who impressed with figures of 3/7 from 4 overs. Chasing 92 runs for victory at a calm rate of 4.6 to the over, Ilembe got of to a poor start and were in strife at 31/4 in the 9th over.
Y. Moosa making his debut for Ilembe and B. Ismail, tried to rebuild the innings by putting on 17 runs before Ismail was caught of the bowling of L. Moodley for 4. The next 3 wickets fell for 32 runs with Dawnheights bowlers taking wick ets at regular intervals. With the score on 82/8 after 17 overs the match was in the balance as Dawn heights needed 2 wickets and Ilembe 10 runs for victory. You could smell the tension in the air, but it was the Ilembe batsmen pair of R. Kazi 11 (not out) and D. Pillay 3 (not out) who held their nerve to see Ilembe home. Dawnheights bowlers tried their best with L. Moodley 4/33 in 4, A. Maha raj 2/11 in 4 and D. Rautenbach 2/13 after 4 overs. Ilembe scraped home in the derby by 2 wickets. Supplied.
