70 years pass for Bonbeach couple BONBEACH couple Reginald and Joyce Musgrove celebrated their 70th anniversary on 22 January. The two were married at Chelsea Congregational Church in 1949, and have been together ever since. Mr Musgrove (90) and Mrs Musgrove (89) have lived in the Chelsea area for their entire lives. Their daughter Kaye Musgrove said “they met when they were about 15 years old, Mum used to babysit Dad’s nephew.” “They went out on their first date when they were 15, it was a double date with friends. Dad actually ended up asking if they could swap dates, and that’s how he ended up with Mum. They still see even their friend Marie they went on that double date with after all these years.” Ms Musgrove has moved in with her parents
to care for them, and is currently helping her father write his memoir. She said her parents were “local icons”. “Dad was actually born in Chelsea. They live in Bonbeach, he was born in Chelsea and lived there all his life. He’s owned shops and been a butcher for nearly 60 years. “They had three children, and have four grandchildren, Stephen, Amanda, Glenn, and Liam. They also have two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and four step-greatgrandchildren.” Ms Musgrove said the key to her parent’s long marriage was that “they stay loving. Dad came from 15 kids, so he was brought up with a lot of love.” The Musgroves received a letter from the Prime Minister and the Queen congratulating them.

Councils at crossroads over Baxter line Brodie Cowburn brodie@baysidenews.com.au MORNINGTON mayor David Gill has poured cold water on Frankston Council CEO Dennis Hovenden’s claims that Mornington Shire has “no problem” with Baxter being the end point for the Frankston line extension. Mr Hovenden said at the last council meeting of the year that an informal dinner meeting between Mornington and Frankston councils led to the agreement that “the Mornington Peninsula [Shire] has no problem with the electrification to Langwarrin and Baxter.” (“Rail resolution between councils signalled”, The Times, 15/1/19) Cr Gill has disputed those comments, saying it “is not an accurate summary of the meeting between Frankston City Council and Mornington Peninsula Council in which Mornington Peninsula Council expressed the wish to have the electrification extension to at least Hastings.” Mornington Council is not in favour of the extension stopping at Baxter which is in the Green Wedge and the Mornington Peninsula Municipality,” he said. “Hastings is the logical extension with extensive zoned special use including Port related and industrial land and residential land still available for development and is also one of the three major activity centres on the Mornington
Peninsula. “At the joint Frankston City and Mornington Peninsula Council informal meeting there was some discussion about there being less issues with the electrification going to Langwarrin within the boundaries of the Frankston City Municipality.” “The Baxter end of line alternative may have severe consequences in terms of large scale infrastructure that will develop surrounding an electrified end of line station and threaten years of careful planning to protect the integrity of the local planning scheme, the character of the Mornington Peninsula and the protection of the Green Wedge.” When asked to clarify his comments, Mr Hovenden told The News “Frankston City Council has met with Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to progress a joint position on the electrification of the train line towards the Mornington Peninsula, to take to the Minister. “Council fully understands and appreciates the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council’s view that the stabling of trains should not be at Baxter and supports an alternative position within the Mornington Peninsula Shire. “Council maintains an excellent working relationship with the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, having established the executive sub-committee; the next joint meeting being in March.”
