Carrum Ducks raise awareness fun run

More life savers ready to help A GROUP of passionate beachgoers born around the world have formed the latest batch of lifesavers with the Bonbeach Life Saving Club. The club’s December training brought together nine young people born overseas who now live locally. The lifesavers-in-training, aged between 16 and 20, were born across Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Vietnam, and Afghanistan. completed their training last month. Life Saving Victoria diversity and inclusion coordinator Ramzi Hussaini said that Bonbeach Life Saving Club is a leader in the diversity space. “Life Saving Victoria welcomes these nine young people who completed their training as the state newest lifesavers – charged with keeping the community safe at Bonbeach Lifesaving Club,” Hussaini said. “It is a testament to these young people that they have chosen to give back to the community that they are now proud to call home. THE Carrum Coast Guard’s annual fun run will be held next month. The fun run has been held for the last eight years. This year, runners will get started at the Patterson River Launching Way at 8.30am on 18 February. Two runs around Patterson River can be undertaken, a 6 kilometer and a 12 kilometer. The day will also feature a barbeque and kids activities. Entry for adults is $40 for the six kilometer track and $45 for the 12 kilometer. Money raised will go back into the Coast Guard. ASPENDALE life savers will don blue this month to raise awareness for men’s mental health. Men die by suicide around three times more than women do. Australian Institute of Health and Welfare statistics from 2022 found that 18.8 men per 100,000 die by suicide compared to 5.9 per 100,000 women. More men died by suicide than women in every age category. Members of the Aspendale Life Saving Club will wear blue from 11am to 6pm on 21 January to raise awareness.
