He finished just behind Olympians Jack Rayner and Stewart

McSweyn. Mentone’s Michael Kernahan was not far behind, posting a time of 18:30. The Mentone under-20 boys, under-14 girls, and 50-plus women won bronze medals in their team events.

New Labor government outlines plans Continued from page 1 “I want an economy that works for people, not the other way around. Together we can as a country say that all of us, if the Fair Work Commission doesn’t cut the wage of minimum aged workers, we can say that we welcome that absolutely. Together we can strengthen universal healthcare through Medicare,” Albanese said. “We can protect universal superannuation. And we can write universal childcare into that proud tradition. Together we can fix the crisis in aged

care. Together we can make forward equal opportunity for women a national economic and social priority. Together we can and will establish a national anti-corruption commission. Together we can be a self-reliant, resilient nation, confident in our values and in our place in the world. And together we can embrace the Uluru Statement from the heart.” The Greens improved their primary vote in Isaacs, with candidate Alex Breskin receiving 12.3 per cent of the first preference vote. Breskin told his Face-

book followers that election day was “such an exciting day and election for Australia. We kicked the Liberals out and the Greens did better than ever.” “We’re even seeing a nearly 2 per cent swing here in Isaacs - we’ll see how it lands as postals come back, but all indications are looking incredibly positive,” he said. The Liberal Democrats and United Australia Party each received around 5 per cent of first preference votes. One Nation received around 3 per cent and the Animal Justice Party 2 per cent.
