New train stations ready to go Brodie Cowburn brodie@baysidenews.com.au THE reconstructions of Edithvale, Chelsea, and Bonbeach train stations are finished. The three stations have been demolished and completely reconstructed in the last few months. The new railway stations opened on 22 November. Carrum MP Sonya Kilkenny says she is happy to see the “death trap” level crossings at Edithvale Road in Edithvale, Swanpool Avenue in Chel-

ings and we have. The new stations will benefit thousands of locals and travel times will be slashed. Thanks to the local community for their patience as the crews got in to complete these major works.” Works will continue on the stations until 2022. There is still work to do on landscaping, station car parks, and 11 kilometers of shared use paths. The LXRP estimated that the removed boom gates used to be down for up to 40 per cent of the morning peak. Around 40,000 people commute on the Frankston train line each day.

sea, Chelsea Road in Chelsea, Argyle Avenue in Chelsea, and Bondi Road in Bonbeach gone for good. “Delivering on our election commitment to remove these death traps is great news for the community – with the three new stations opening just in time for the summer holidays and ready for passengers to enjoy,” she said. “We’re excited to celebrate the end of these major works– which will improve safety and ease congestion in the bayside suburbs.” Mordialloc MP Tim Richardson said “we promised to get rid of these dangerous and congested level cross-

RULES for dogs during the summer period are now in effect. Year-round, dogs are permitted offleash on the Mentone foreshore between Charman Road and Plummer Road. During summer dogs can be exercised off lead in Carrum from the southern end of Old Post Office Lane car park to Osprey Lane from 7.30pm to 10am. At other times there are no dogs allowed in that area. No dogs are allowed at any time between Bay Street and Mordialloc Creek. At most other Kingston beaches dogs are allowed off-leash from sunrise to 10am and on-leash from 7.30pm to sunrise. Between 10am and 7.30pm no dogs are allowed. Kingston mayor Steve Staikos said “we have 13km of foreshore across Kingston so there is plenty of space for all to share and enjoy visiting the beach.” “I’m a dog owner and love taking Pepper and Kloe to the beach, but I also know many people are not comfortable around dogs. Our focus is on ensuring everyone can enjoy our beautiful foreshore in the safest and healthiest way possible.”

NEW picnic tables are being installed for the summer. Around 100 tables will be put up in a bid to help provide more outdoor seating space for residents. Kingston mayor Steve Staikos said the plan would help local businesses trade outdoors. “With lockdowns now behind us, many businesses are taking it outdoors to welcome back customers and we encourage the community to shop local for supplies then enjoy a picnic at one of our parks or reserves,” Cr Staikos said. “The tables include unique QR codes, allowing users to scan for nearby traders. “The picnic tables add to our footpath trading, parklet and outdoor dining pop up programs already in place.” The tables will be installed by Kingston Council, and are funded through the state government’s COVIDSafe outdoor activation fund. Picnic tables will be at 28 reserves and parks throughout the municipality. A PICNIC table installed by Kingston Council. Picture: Supplied
