Reindeer rustled
A HEARTLESS thief stole colourful Christmas decorations from the front garden of a Mentone property, overnight, Saturday 9 December. The three reindeer, valued at $300, ranged in height from 183cm-137cm. They had been tethered to stakes in the garden of the Mentone Parade property. Detective Sergeant John Burgess, of Kingston CIU, said the homeowner awoke to find his cherished reindeer gone.
Collision charges
DETECTIVES say they intend to charge a Cheltenham man on summons with recklessly causing injury and possibly failing to stop after an accident on Centre Dandenong Rd, Cheltenham, 7.10pm, Sunday 19 November. The 21-year-old allegedly drove off after the incident in which a white Hyundai hatch being driven by a 73-year-old man was knocked onto its side, trapping him. The younger man handed himself in at Cheltenham police four days later – possibly after reading a Crime Stoppers report calling on him to come forward. He was interviewed and allowed to leave. The older man was taken by ambulance to The Alfred hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
In and out
A THIEF simply walked into a Mentone house and stole jewellery and a purse while the owners were at home, 7.30am, Thursday 7 December. Detectives said the Caucasian man,

tall, slim, and wearing a red shirt, jeans and baseball cap possibly walked through an open door at the Latona St property and was inside for only a few minutes. The purse contained $280; the value of the jewellery is yet to be assessed.
Street robbery
A BEAUMARIS man lost his Apple iPhone 7 in black cover and $100 cash during a street robbery, 11.30pm, Friday 8 December. The Caucasian man, 19, was walking along Nepean Highway near Balcombe Rd when he was accosted by an Asian man and an African man who demanded the items. The Asian man allegedly punched the victim in the mouth before they got into a silver SUV and drove off north along Nepean Highway.
Phone taken
A MOBILE phone was stolen from a 71-year-old volunteer on duty at the Sacred Heart op shop, Charman Rd, Cheltenham, lunchtime, Monday 11 December. The black HTC mobile was at the rear of the store. CCTV is being assessed in the hope of identifying the offender.
Jewellery stolen BURGLARS ransacked the bedroom of an Edithvale property and stole jewellery valued at $5000 during a daytime robbery, Monday 11 December. Detectives said the offenders may have entered through a rear window of the Vincent St property.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
Shop robbed A CHELSEA Heights fish and chip shop was robbed of $200 cash, overnight, Wednesday 6 December. Burglars forced the rear door of the shop in Wells Rd, Waterways, after earlier attempting to force their way into the Subway store next door.
Doorway fire
A FIRE was deliberately lit in the front door well of a Braeside factory, 4.25am, Monday 11 December. Paper was lit outside the timber door of the engineering business causing confined damage. The alarm was triggered and the small blaze was put out by a passer-by before he called the fire brigade. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
Cameras stolen
GO-Pro cameras valued at $800, a wallet containing $25 and credit cards were stolen from a sales representative visiting the Myer store at Southland, 5.44pm, Friday 8 December. Staff believe a Caucasian man, 183cm, medium build, wearing a black t-shirt with Adidas logo and green cargo-style pants, may have stolen the cameras which were in a Crumpler bag. CCTV is being assessed and the cards were immediately cancelled. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000
