Call to fulfil station parking promise ble - made without any consultation - and has all the hallmarks of being yet another Morrison announcement without delivery. Our community needs investment in public transport infrastructure, we deserve to have the promised funding delivered.” The News sent queries to urban infrastructure minister Paul Fletcher’s office asking for an update on the projects. A spokesperson for the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Communications responded “the commuter car park upgrades at Frankston, Kananook and Seaford railway stations are currently in the planning stage with consultation between the Australian and Victorian governments and Frankston City Council ongoing. All projects vary in complexity and are required to go through appropriate planning before construction can start.”
Brodie Cowburn brodie@baysidenews.com.au THE opposition has called on the federal government to get moving on its promise to build more car parks at Frankston line train stations. In the leadup to its victory at the 2019 election, the federal government promised to expand the car parks at three Frankston line stations - Frankston, Seaford, and Kananook. “Before the last election, Scott Morrison promised an extra 100 carparks for both Kananook and Seaford Stations but nothing has been delivered,” Dunkley MP Peta Murphy said. “It’s been two years since the announcement, and nothing has happened. “The announcement of these car parks was an election thought bub-
“The Australian government is committed to ensuring commuter car park upgrades funded through the urban congestion fund get underway as quickly as possible, to bust congestion in our major cities by providing more opportunities for commuters to park and ride on public transport. Commuter car parks are a critical enabler for people to use public transport,” the spokesperson said. “All funding for the Australian government’s committed projects in Victoria under the urban congestion fund is budgeted and ready to be paid on achievement of agreed construction milestones.” In May 2019, the now former Dunkley MP Chris Crewther was joined by treasurer Josh Frydenberg to announce $38.5 million in “budgeted” funding for the project (“Push to ease parking pain”, The News, 6/5/19).
VICTORIA’S 28-day run without COVID-19 recorded in the community was broken on 3 February. A hotel quarantine worker tested positive to COVID-19 after last working at the Grand Hyatt on 29 January. Following the 26-year-old Noble Park man’s positive test the Department of Health updated its list of exposure sites, including locations in Keysborough. One of the exposure sites was the Aces Sporting Club driving range on the corner of Springvale Road and Hutton Road, Keysborough, between 10pm and 11.15pm 30 January. Anyone who visited the range during that time is asked to get a coronavirus test, and remain isolated for 14 days. Kmart Keysborough in Parkmore Shopping Centre on Cheltenham Road was also listed as an exposure site. Anyone who visited that store between 4pm and 5pm on 31 January was also asked to get tested and isolate. The Melbourne Golf Academy at 385 Centre Dandenong Road, Heatherton, between 5.19pm and 6.36pm on 1 February was also an exposure site. After the new COVID-19 case was discovered, new restrictions were put into place statewide. The limit on the number of people gathering in a household was reduced from 30 to 15 again. Masks were also made mandatory in public indoor spaces. The 75 per cent return to work plan scheduled for 8 February was postponed. APPLICATIONS for Kingston Council’s 2021 grant programs have opened. The Annual Grants program offers up to $10,000 for not-for-profit community groups and organisations. Up to $5000 is available through the Arts Grants program, while groups that organise activities for Children’s Week in October can apply for up to $1,000 through the Children’s Week Grant. The mayor Steve Staikos said “these grants give local community groups a valuable boost to continue their good work. It’s also an equitable way for the community to seek funding assistance from council.” “There are so many fantastic community groups doing great work across Kingston and 2020 showed just how crucial the services they provide are to our community, in times of need. Council is proud to be able to support their efforts.” Applications open until midnight on 28 March.
