The yacht club is situated in the middle of this charming seaside town, with its boutiques, pubs, art galleries and nationally acclaimed restaurants. There’s plenty of space to park your boat, and a great chandlery right next door. A wide range of accommodation is available, from bunk rooms at the yacht club, to hotels and self-catering cottages; book early as summer can be busy. For non-sailors there are local shops specialising in everything from cheese to cupcakes, fashion to vintage furniture, and lovely coastal walks from Seasalter to Reculver, passing the stunning cliff top lawns of Tankerton slopes and the miles of pebble beaches lined with

May 25-29 Upper Thames SC, Bourne End, Bucks Overview: ‘River racing at its best’. Bourne End Week is the annual regatta of Upper Thames SC and has been run for over 100 years. racing fOrmat: Class racing for OKs, Wayfarers, Merlin Rockets, Fireflies, RS Fevas, and Handicap, plus the national championship for the historic Thames A-Raters. An innovation this year is a Classic Fleet for pre-1985 and under 16ft dinghies. All fleets will have a morning and an afternoon race. classes: Merlin Rocket, Wayfarer, OK, Firefly, RS Feva, Classic, handicap and Thames A-Rater. entry fees: Full prices shown, discounted early online booking preferred. May 30-June 1 Upper Thames SC, Bourne End, Bucks Overview: A mixture of racing, fun and games. Come and join in if you are 18 or under, race training for those who want, with the opportunity to compete in the Junior Bourne End Week Regatta. The event is organised and run entirely with the support of parents.

August 19 -23 Under the burgee of Hayling Island SC, Sandy Point, Hayling Island, Hants Overview: This year sees the 50th Anniversary of this regatta, one of the most popular dinghy race weeks in the country, attracting in excess of 300 entries each year. racing fOrmat: Races are sailed over three separate courses in Chichester Harbour; there is one race per day with three results to count, with the exception of the Tera, Topper, Optimist and Slow Handicap fleets which have nine shorter races, with six results to count (two races on the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, one race on Friday). Start times are 1000hrs on Monday August 19, 1030 on Tuesday 20, 1100 on Wednesday 21, 1130 on Thursday 22, 1215 on Friday 23. classes: Class racing for Artemis 20, Finn, Flying Fifteen, Foils, Laser, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, Merlin Rocket, Optimist, RS200, RS400, RS Elite, RS Feva, RS Tera, Solo, Topper, plus handicap fleets. Handicap racing normally based on HISC-modified Portsmouth Numbers but may be varied at discretion of race committee: Fast Asymmetric H’cap and Foils; Medium Asymmetric H’cap; Fast H’cap Conventional; Medium H’cap; Slow H’cap.
