Beanie “A cosy hat that is 100% waterproof,” say Sealskinz of their new winter beanie, aimed at sailors. It’s a hat, indeed, that is said to “take away any worries of a cold and wet head which can lead to all sorts of not-so-good things outdoors”.

Crewsaver has introduced the Atacama Sport+ drysuit, named after the Atacama Desert, the driest place on earth, incorporating a number of features including Glideskin neoprene wrist and neck seals. Crewsaver’s Design Manager Zach Williams says: “We have also designed the drysuit from a three-layer, waterproof, breathable fabric which incorporates Cordura reinforcement in high wear areas such as the knees and seat for extra protection and improved durability. The Atacama Sport+ has been engineered to keep you dry in all weather conditions which means you can get back out on (or in!) the water way ahead of the warmer months.” The suit is designed with fabric socks and includes a free Stratum fleece for warmth. The articulated arm and leg design coupled with the elasticated waist and adjustable stretchy braces, ensures unrestricted movement.  £475  crewsaver.com

TESTED Georgie Corlett-Pitt put Gill’s Pursuit Trainers through their paces at the recent TP52 Worlds in Palma Often when sailing in the ‘guest’ spot, you are never quite where you are meant to be, and so it’s important to be able to hop nimbly about the boat when needed. In this case, I was also jumping between the sleek decks of the race boat and the slippery wet sponson of the chase boat in a fairly significant swell. These trainers did not let me down. The non-slip grip did its job in both wet and dry conditions, while the air-cell insole brilliantly absorbed impact and the moulded toe protection gave me confidence that the front of my foot was well-protected and supported. A drainage system ensures any water is quickly expelled. Perhaps what impressed me most was the fit; the quick-lace adjustment meant they could be tailored perfectly even to my wide feet. Coupled with a breathable, quick dry upper, these lightweight trainers felt comfortable to wear throughout, even after a long day afloat in the Med’s warm autumn sunshine.  £100  gillmarine.com
