Bulalo

Almost every Filipino is familiar with this special dish. Batangas Bulalo might be a simple beef soup but its long preparation time makes it even more special dahil nanunuot ang lasa ng baka sa sabaw matapos itong pakuluan ng ilang oras na may halong sibuyas at pamintang buo. Siguradong simot to the bones!

Batangas Lomi

Hindi ka lang mabubusog sa pagmamahal from your loved ones kundi pati na rin sa overloaded toppings ng Lomi ng Batangas, filled with crispy chicharon, meaty slices of kikiam, chicken liver, and pork belly. Lomi Batangas is made of miki noodles covered in thick egg noodle soup, filled with overloaded savory toppings that adds more texture to this more-than-perfect noodle soup of Batangas.

Batangas Goto

In the Philippines, goto is usually known as rice porridge but with beef meat. Rice porridge or lugaw is commonly known as a comfort food for Filipinos as it’s usually served when you’re sick. However, Batangas Goto puts an extraordinary twist to this dish by incorporating several internal organs. Batangas Goto is a savory soup filled with beef internal organs and annatto powder.

Deep Fried Tawilis

Tawilis is a freshwater fish which can only be found in the lakes of Taal. To add more flavor, you can pair it with bagoong Balayan or just simply dip it with vinegar to balance out its saltiness.

Kapeng Barako

Batangas is also known for its strong dark coffee also known as Kapeng Barako. Ika nga nila, unang higop mo palang ay siguradong magigising at mabubuhayan ka agad. A cup of kapeng barako paired with some fresh pandesal from local panaderias is best enjoyed while catching up with your loved ones and being in the moment with them.

Have you ever heard of this expression?

Did you also read it with a prominent Batangueño accent?

Ang Batangas ay isa sa madalas puntahan ng mga Filipino dahil it’s just a short drive away from the bustling city of Metro Manila and it also has the second largest international seaport in the Philippines. Pero syempre, napakarami rin nitong mga wonders na talagang maipagmamalaki sa mga turista, may it be locally or internationally. Dito matatagpuan ang Taal Volcano, along with the Taal Heritage town, historical churches, matataas na bulubundukin na pwede mong akyatin, at napakaraming beaches na pwede mong puntahan. Batangas is also well-known for their distinctive dialect and “Ala eh!” is one of their most famous expressions.

In the dialect of Batangueños, “ala” is a term that translates to “well “ while the term “eh” has no definite meaning but it’s used as a word to provide emphasis. With reference to this famous expression, Batangas created a festival to encourage people to visit their province.

In 2008, Batangas introduced their Ala Eh! Festival to mesmerize tourists with the rich and varied culture of the province and to further promote tourism in the region.

Every year, a particular municipality is given the mission of organizing the festival and the events that will highlight the finest aspects of their province. The festival is celebrated on December 8, the founding anniversary of Batangas, and it usually lasts for a week. They hold a wide range of activities to showcase their rich culture, including beauty pageants highlighting fruits and vegetables, street dance competitions, mini Olympics, street markets or tiangge where local products are proudly exhibited.
