since 1969 Handprint is a family-run business producing objects of beautiful living. Our inspiration is a hand crafted textile - an awakening of traditional art, an observance of individuality and the realization of living in a sacred space. Our passion is reviving crafts communities by integrating contemporary design with the expert workmanship of traditional craft. We offer an alternate to the mass produced, low quality products that have saturated marketplaces. We assembled experienced karigars (artisans) from all over India in our workshop and started hand block printing textiles in 1969. We have now added silk screen printing, hand tie and dye, hand embroidery, hand quilting and Artisan machine and chain stitch embroidery. Our workshop is designed with organic materials, open spaces and natural light to create a living environment that inspires artists and designers. As planetary health has emerged as an increasing matter of concern, sustainability and social responsibility have become core values for us. We use ecologically sustainable production techniques like solar heating, rainwater harvesting, and treating all effluents produced by our production processes. We have a natural gas boiler and use the sun to dry all our fabrics. Our renew project of cushions, patchworks and bag collections have been designed by recycling left overs fabric scraps and are a commitment towards a more sustainable future. Our product range includes apparel, fashion, interior accessories, and home furnishings. We actively support the work of Disha in bringing hope to the Street children of Calcutta and the KDML school in Medikeri, that educates children with special needs. BABA SHAHID (since 1974) Baba Shahid was 26 when he joined our fledging printing “enterprise� in 1974. We had 2 hand block printing tables and 6 employees. He was illiterate and uneducated but already a master of processing textile fabrics after they had been printed. He showed exceptional courage and loyalty in the 1984 anti Sikh riots in New Delhi. All factories belonging to the Sikhs were being burnt by rampaging mobs. He and many other workers stood outside our workshop and refused to let any goons enter our premises. Ours was the only one out of 85 factories not burnt. He remained with us till his retirement in 2004. He continues to receive his full salary, increased each year to account for inflation; as well as medical benefits.

JODH SINGH (since 1977)
Jodh Singh was 19 when he joined our Company in February 1977. He came looking for a job from a small mountain village close to the Nepalese border. Starting as an office peon, he joined the sampling department and due to his prodigious memory became an indispensable part of our sales team. We show our buyers designs and colours from an extraordinary range of textile products - printed, woven and embroidered. Jodh Singh seems to remember where each one of more than 3000 items are kept. He retired in 2014 and now comes in 2 days a week to guide the new sales team. His son, Rajender joined one of our retail shops as a sales person in 2015. He has mastered the sales software and is taking English lessons to apply for assistant store manager post.
SHEELA VERMA (since 1986) Sheela was studying in class 10th in Firozabad when she got married. She moved to Delhi when she was 24 years old and joined us as a checker. Over the years she has been promoted to the sampling department and was then supervising our retail production. She now heads the finishing department and is responsible for the quality of each piece that is exported from our factory. In 1989, her husband suffered an accident, that left him paralysed. Since then she has supported her own family and his parents. Sheela wants her son to be better educated than she had the opportunity to be. He is now 19 years old and is applying to college this year. She feels great to be a part of our supportive family. She loves to travel.
