Hover Story CHECKMATE FLEXIBLE engineering recently won a £200,000 contract to design and build the skirt for the Singapore Technologies’ 200-tonne hoverbarge, which will be used in a variety of extreme environments from the Arctic to the Tropics. The leading ship builder is based in the Far East and has more than 30 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of hoverbarges. Since then, he has gained valuable experience in flexible product design and manufacture and has played a pivotal role in driving the flexible engineering team forward. Ushpal’s promotion to industrial products manager is a reflection of the success of the peristaltic hose business. Testing 1 2 3! IT’S NO secret that there have been many long-standing issues concerning safety in the lifting industry. In April 2011, we decided to begin to address some of these issues by conducting a number of rigorous tests on our heavy lifting webslings. The tests involved the compatibility of textile slings when connected to component hardware, the effect of adding multiple eyes to textile slings and the overall design of heavy lifting webslings. The subsequent reports that came from the tests were submitted to LEEA with the sole aim of improving the safety of products across the lifting industry. Since then, LEEA has commissioned us to carry out further tests enabling the organisational body to put the appropriate recommendations in place. You can see all the results on our website.
