ou take the good, you take the bad, you take them both, and there you have the facts of life…or so the song goes. When it comes to home renovations, especially a master closet, you “take the bad,” swap it out for the fabulous, and you have something gorgeous. Snee Farm homeowners Sara and Bill Tuorto have lived in their fair share of homes—three on this very street—and have mastered the ability to fix up a home and make it wonderful. With the help of Jeff Perkins and the team at California Closets, what was once a tiny office became a stunning, completely custom master closet, com-

plete with a fireplace, glass front doors, and expertly designed shelves, drawers, and racks. The Tuortos wanted to update their master closet with a professional system and integrate their own décor, along with some of the home’s original features. For example, the fireplace and sconces fit in with their aesthetic desires so the California Closets team built around them. Since antiquing is a hobby of theirs, some of their pieces were also blended in with this space and fit in well with the melamine and glass closet system. Throughout the process, Sara and Bill worked closely with Califonia Closets going back and forth numerous times to get the layout and plans for this space just right. “It’s not as easy as you think to plan your own dream closet. You can have inspiration, but it’s hard to know the precise details,” explains Sara. “For example, Jeff thought of things that we wouldn’t have taken into consideration like how high shelves needed to be because my husband’s pants were a certain length when they were folded.” Shelf depth, wallpaper backing, and finish colors were also part of the process.

After the final product was complete, the Tuortos loved what they saw. “I like that I can have everything out and on display and I especially like that there is a place for everything,” adds Sara. “My daughters love that my jewelry is laid out in easy-to-access drawers. My husband travels a lot and it is nice that his ties and suits can be so organized.”v For more information about California Closets call (843) 284-8828 or visit californiaclosets.com.
