Highlights from local projects by some of Charleston's best home professionals cooler evenings in the fall and spring while looking over the marsh will make for great conversations,” says Matt Byrd, founder and owner of Byrd Builders. The design of the new wing incorporates elements from the existing home. “The outdoor living room is similar in scale and uses details and finishes from the living space in the existing house, which creates a sense of cohesion between the two spaces," says Matt.

When family and friends visit, the homeowners stay in the new addition—complete with a fully-equipped kitchen—to allow guests free reign of the main house.

The master suite provides a new separate entry porch which opens to a windowed hallway that leads to the master sitting area. The sitting area with fireplace opens to the master bedroom to create a larger space as a retreat. “With the coffee bar in the sitting area, the owners can enjoy the space with its early morning views across the marsh," Matt states. The focus of the sitting area is a custom mantle built on site
by LowCountry Trim, of which Matt explains, "Martha provided photos of their mantle in Dallas and we recreated the mantle for her." The spacious master suite with twelve foot ceilings and large windows, which are typical of Cusick Hazeltine’s architecture, allow the homeowners to take full advantage of the views. The antique heart of pine floors and refined interior detailing add warmth and character. The master suite includes a private laundry area with an oversized sink and a closet area with windows and bureau-style cabinetry. The adjoining master bath is open and provides a large walk in shower, garden tub with a marsh view, separate water closet, and extensive cabinetry. The addition reflects Byrd Builders' attention to details, some of which are not readily apparent or visible. Byrd only accepts one to two projects at a time to ensure each project receives
