Inspiring homeowners through a warm and welcoming entrance was what led Linda to brainstorm this garden. Charleston has a historic landscape and Linda wanted to unite that idea with a modern twist. This was done by incorporating evergreens and ornamental plant materials including Italian cypress, tea olives, azaleas, boxwoods, and more. To elevate the entryway, Linda selected ligustrum topiaries that line the left of the front entry stairs, which add a vertical aspect enhanced by dwarf mondo grass and annuals for extra color. Another focal point that Linda included was the coral bark Japanese maple that complemented the color of the house’s trim.

The Swiss Family Robinson book was one of Meredith’s favorite as a child and now the movie has been on repeat at her house. To Meredith, the third floor of the house felt like a treehouse so that’s the feeling she wanted to elicit in the playroom. As a firm believer that designs for children should be rich with texture and elements people of all ages can enjoy, Meredith scouted for the Scalamandre fishing creel teepee and the antique steamer trunk set. Another stand-out element is the fort that was built into the existing closet. She also selected custom antelope rug from Fine Rugs of Charleston and window seat cushions from Southern Shades. Creating an elegant and fun space for children was Meredith’s driving force.
