GREENHOUSE
Reclaim Your Style From farm to oyster tables, wine cabinets to media consoles, Tailgate Specialties founder and owner Chris Cox can make just about any piece of furniture a homeowner can dream of. “Oyster tables are the most popular items we produce, all by hand and one at a time,” he says. Some of those are built using salvaged wood. Chris’ experience with reclaimed wood includes everything from heart pine to lumber
from a 100-year-old Cypress. One of his most recent projects is a dining table built from heart pine wood. He and his aunt and uncle reclaimed the wood from the Indian Field Swamp campgrounds in St. George, SC. The wood was more than 100 years old; Chris jokes he wore his snake boots to remove it from its storage barn. For this project, like many of his relcaimed pieces, he used a light hand
when cleaning and finishing the piece. “A lot of people want to keep the aged look— telltale marks of old saw mills and nail holes of the original piece. By using minimal or no stain, and simply clear coat, the saw marks really pop,” Chris explains. Curb Pests Naturally

Less is more when it comes to insects. It’s also a frequent request when it comes to insecticides. Customers are increasingly focused on minimizing chemicals in and around their homes. Enter Palmetto Exterminators. The company offers two options for green pest control. Endorsed by the Natural Resources Defense Council, their GreenPro Service features natural, organic, and biodegradable products for inside and outside treatments. Customers who choose this service will need to be more tolerant of in-
sects as the green insecticides do not last as long and typically more insects are seen in between services. The Green Hybrid program provides green insecticides inside, but uses a more traditional insecticide on the exterior for longer results. “More customers opt for this option here in Charleston as we have such a heavy insect population,” explains Charleston Branch Manager Nick Cummings.
