riving through the quaint streets of the Hibben neighborhood in Mt. Pleasant’s Belle Hall development, most of the homes are expectedly similar in style…Charleston single or Lowcountry plantation in orientation, with wide porches and second floor balconies. Towards the end of one street, however, a single house stands decidedly different from the rest. Surprisingly, the distinctively European-style façade of the home does not look jarring in its row of Southern style structures; classic architecture and a stately design ensure it only enhances the appeal of the charming street upon which it sits. Inspired by their travels to Europe together, homeowners Dave and Amy Florez wanted a home that

would pay homage to the juxtaposition of Old World architecture and ultra modern fixtures they’d seen in their sojourns—and they wanted that home to be exceptional enough to stand out against the typical Charleston home landscape. The couple jumped into work immediately with interior designer Emily Walton of Askins Walton Design Group in order to develop a unique design plan for the home’s décor—a large part of which would revolve around local company Ferguson Enterprises. “Image Homes, the builder of Dave and Amy’s home, called me in to assist with the selection of cabinetry, lighting, plumbing, and interior furnishings,” explains
Emily. “Dave and Amy came to me with a complete vision of what they wanted and I just basically helped them to implement that, beginning with the exterior lanterns supplied by Ferguson.” Working with Emily to finalize selections of the unique fixtures was Ferguson design associate Erin MacIlwaine, who was inspired by the project from the beginning. “I love these exterior lanterns,” she enthuses. “They are so different and fit perfectly for the house; they were one of the first lighting selections we made and I got really excited because it got us in the groove for the fixtures for the rest of the house.” Striking such success with the exterior lighting, Emily called upon Erin for help with various interior selections.
