Chattanooga fell just short in its first attempt at going to the NCAA Sweet 16 in Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. The Mocs missed a short jumper in the game’s final possession falling in a thriller to No. 7 Minnesota, 62-61, on Mar. 14, 1982. UTC defeated Jim Valvano’s N.C. State Wolfpack 58-51 in the opening round. It was one year prior to N.C. State’s epic Cinderella run to the championship.
