TIMEKILLERS OVER THE SUMMER BOOKS TO CHECK OUT

by Andrew Cullen

You might get bored this summer or your mom might say, “Get off your bum and read a book!” If either of these things happens to you, here are some suggestions.

While there are different books that are good for different ages, I am going to focus on offering up ideas for 3rd-5th graders and 6th-8th graders. You can always visit your local library or bookstore for ideas too!

For 3rd-5th graders, I would recommend the I Survived series by Lauren Tarshis which is about historic events told from the eyes of a tween. They are very interesting and good. I also think that the Magic Treehouse series by Mary Pope Osborne is also very interesting These are about a treehouse becoming a time machine and the two owners of the treehouse traveling to different historical time periods. Both of these series should appeal to 3rd -5th graders.

For 6th-8th graders, I would recommend the following books

All of the books that Mrs Greenspan assigns to the upper schoolers are fantastic books. I just read the book A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson and it was really good. So if you are interested in books, Mrs Greenspan has great suggestions, but here are a few of my own Maze Runner by James Dashner is a great series and the same is true with Gary Paulsen’s book Hatchet.

Keep in mind that most of these suggestions are my opinion so don’t blame me if you do not like some of the books I suggested. Just keep this article in mind if you ever want to read a good book.
