eing pregnant with my twins was a great experience, but I can’t take credit for all of my fabulosity (or even that word, thanks Kimora!). So here are some of the people, places and products that gave me that extra boast of confidence to help me look, feel, and entertain at my best!
Talk about the lap of luxury! I never felt as if I were staying in a hospital, but in a five-star hotel, complete with a childcare and roomservice. I had a private bathroom and private balcony too. They took such great care of my twins, I honestly hated to leave.
Since this was my first pregnancy (and probably my last) I wanted to make sure I made every moment memorable. A regular sheet cake just wouldn’t do for my baby shower or as I called it, “The Twins Premiere Party”. So I contacted a rising pastry chef, Takesha Silver, to design a cake perfect for the occasion. Now my twins can’t ever say mommy didn’t buy them Louis Vutton. (The twins on top of the cake are wrapped in Louis Vutton blankets)
We pulled out all the stops for our Sex and the City Premiere. The only thing I didn’t do was pull together my look. Thank goodness for Twitter! I tweeted about not having anything to wear and moments later Nuka Maternity came to my rescue. Their line is worn by many expectant Hollywood celebrities including Nora Jones, Tori Amos and Christina Aguliera and has been featured in numerous magazines. The designer, Julia Noik sent me the Black Henna Dress. Not only is she an awesome fashion photographer, but she captured those precious moments that I’ll cherish forever. Erin came to my home for a private photoshoot with me and hubby. I just love this picture!

ami Svay, Nikki Lowery, and Effie Loukas are the founders of the company, Industrié. These entrepreneurs work together in their respective fields to make looking fabulous and glamorous simple. Each of these ladies has something special to contribute to Charlotte’s fashion atmosphere, but together they provide pure alchemy – making something go from ordinary to effortlessly remarkable. Jami Svay is one of the three magnificent entrepreneurs who is part of Industrié. She “can make someone’s day by making them look good.” In addition to Industrié, she is the founder and makeup artist of Tastee Cosmetics, an organic line of lip beauty
products. Her beauty motto is that “everyone has something beautiful, just enhance it.” She has put this philosophy to the test with clients like Ludacris, Michael Jordan, and Michael Earnhardt Jr. along with corporations like Neiman Marcus, Ralph Lauren, Perry Ellis, Kohl’s, Hanes, Essence, and Jezebel. Nikki O. Lowery holds the high-ranking title as the expert hair stylist for Industrié. I addition to beginning the company, she worked as the director of education at Modern Salon & Spa. Not to mention, her work has been published in magazines like Weddings Unveiled, Charlotte Taste, and Blü Magazine. Her past clients include the NFL’s Top Cats,

Chelsea Cooley (Miss USA 2005), and Colleen Odegaard (WCNC anchor). Her beautiful tresses have engrossed not only Charlotte but also nationally like Milan. Last but not least, Effie Loukas, the brilliant and eclectic stylist who owned a fashionforward boutique, Lotus. Effie and her team were one of the first to feature Cavalli, DSquared, and Diane Von Furstenburg in the hottest clubs around Charlotte. As for her more personal stylist experience, she allows people to make requests to borrow designer clothes or luxurious handbags from her impressive wardrobe. She has a special niche for vintage and especially loves “flea markets because you never know what you are going to find; every piece is so different.” Jami Svay, Nikki Lowery, and Effie Loukas, each has their own landmark to be left on Charlotte’s fashion world. ameka Whitten is the founder and principal of JSW Media Group a creative consultation company specializing in marketing, public relations and events. In her role she oversees public relations, branding and marketing for clients in the entertainment and fashion industry. As if being CEO of her own company isn’t impressive enough, she also operates Amped 4-A Cure, Inc. a non profit organization that supports cancer research through music.

Where do you shop the most?
Online. I don’t have time to shop anymore the way I used to.
What item do you carry everywhere, your STYLISH obsession that you cannot live without? My Blackberry. It’s surgically attached to my hand - or at least it feels that way.
I have a Bachelor’s from Northwestern University in Communication Studies, with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism as well as a Masters in Organizational Management from University of Phoenix. Basically, I’m a nerd.
First - God. It sounds like a cliché, but my steps are ordered and I am right where I am supposed to be, and that makes me want to do more—and be better. Second - My team. I want to succeed so that they will benefit in the long run. You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with.
Honestly, God. He always manages to put me in the right place at the right time. As soon as I graduated from Northwestern in 2000, I landed the gig as the Editor-In-Chief of an upstart Hip Hop publication here in Charlotte. Granted that position lasted only two years; however, I learned all the skills I would need to start JSW Media Group six years later.
It gets a bit frustrating dealing with those who have unrealistic expectations. Everyone wants to be sitting on Oprah’s couch three months after signing their contract. What we do, building and maintaining a brand image, takes a considerable about of time, energy, follow up and patience.
What are your favorite beauty products? I love scents-so I’m addicted to the “Very Sexy” Sheer Mist by Victoria’s Secret as an everyday signature scent, and I wear Prada on special occasions. I also exfoliate with a number of the sugar scrubs by Bath and Body works.
What is your favorite TV show?
It’s a tie between Grey’s Anatomy and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Guilty pleasures are HBO’s True Blood and Big Love.
What do you do for entertainment?

Read everything, pay attention to trends, stay alert. Find a mentor. Be fearless, you can’t be afraid of the answer no. The entertainment industry can be seductive because it looks like it is all about glitz and glamour—don’t be fooled. Choosing to work in this industry is hard. You don’t get many “do-over’s.” You have to grind it out and get things done right, the first time. Also, your reputation is everything, protect it at all costs.
Simply put—I cultivate, manage and promote the public image of the individuals, brands and companies JSW Media Group represents. It’s brand management at its best.
I’d like to expand JSW Media Group so that there are divisions in LA, Chicago and Miami. We already have a NYC division. I’d also like to get into more television-based work… reality shows, award shows, etc.

The doors of Levine Children’s Hospital opened in October 2007 and since then the facility has been dedicated to caring for the children of Charlotte and beyond.

Their specialties range from kidney, liver, and heart transplants, including the region’s only ECMO heart-lung bypass capabilities for newborns and pediatric patients; cardiac and cancer care; neosurgery; rehabilitation service; and the highest level of neonatal intensive care.
