MOULTON BICYCLE 01

World renowned bicycle company, Moulton, set a brief to design an iconic bicycle for the future. The driving force being ‘Irony’. The inal outcome should be a CAD model produced on 3d Studio Max, along with a scale image of the product being used.

ORIGINAL BIKE

SKETCH WORK The ironic thing about existing bicycles is that they are perceived as being good for your health, when in fact, they could be damaging your body and causing long term health problems, if used regularly. The idea behind my design was to ix this problem and allow the bicycle to be used with minimal long term health risks.

POLAROID POS 02

Kesslers International, in association with Polaroid has approached you to design a Point of Sale (POS) unit for the UK to help them gain market share amongst their closest rivals and current leaders in the UK sunglasses market. The units will be put in the retail environment including opticians and cosmetic and beauty areas.

My inal design was a three tier point of sale, suitable for use on a shop loor with products on display both sides of the unit. The top tier includes a mirror at eye level which allows the user to easily decide whether the glasses are right for them, along with a space for promotional posters. A hotspot is located on both sides of the middle tier which focuses the customers attention on a new or featured product. The bottom tier has four draws for storage and the wide base allows for increased stability. The supports are designed to slot in place which enables new sections to be added, or old ones removed.

3D PRINTED CUTENSIL 03

Design a ‘Cutensil in SolidWorks by creating a solid model suitable for 3D printing. The design should demonstrate your skills in the composition of line, shape, texture, form and colour. It should also show your skills in using and expressing your ideas using 3D print.

THE MATRIX SPEAKERS 04

Revive and evoke the identity of an aesthetic style, for a new contemporary product: Research, deconstruct and analyse the aesthetic and semiotic qualities and features of a speciic nostalgic aesthetic style; Develop, reconstruct and synthesise a new aesthetic design concept for a new product in line with the chosen nostalgic aesthetic style.

SKETCHES & INSPIRATION

CULT COFFEE MACHINE 05

A design think tank want to develop an open minded and free form approach to thinking about design: To experiment with the idea of trying to pre-empt the design of a cult object for a future context.

IDEATION The cofee machine I decided to design includes a wireless ingerprint sensor. When the user wakes up, they can simply press their inger on the sensor and their favourite drink will be waiting for them by the time they get out of bed. Taking a while to get up on lazy days isnt a problem due to the insulating glass which automatically covers the drink once it’s made.

AUDI R8 06

Using a series of video tutorials, I was able to model the Audi on Solidworks. I chose to do this in my spare time to further my skills in the software which then allows me to create more realistic CAD models in the future.

PLUMEN PACKAGING 07

Develop a professional but lively (Brio), packaging design for a Bell Packaging client Plumen. The client is asking you to develop packaging concepts for the Plumen 11W Low Energy Designer Bulb. Work should be carried out in groups of four people.

IDEATION & DEVELOPMENT After bringing together our individual ideas, we discussed the similarities and diferences and developed our design further. We decided to combine the existing packaging techniques of Jetbox and Retran to create a sustainable packaging design which sits comfortably on a shop display and displays the bulb in an innovitive way that accentuates the unique form of the Plumen Bulb.

The graphic design printed on the box was inspired by the pendulum paintings that we created. The form of the bulb reminded us of a swinging object and this was how we transfered that idea onto paper.

The colour scheme we are using for the packaging creates a pleasant contrast, aswell as giving a sleek, professional look.
