Concept 1

Typology: Public Space

To create a link between the High Line and a small plaza located outside the entrance of the Standard Hotel, designing of a set of stairs was proposed. The driving concept behind this project was Incremental Reduction. A single square was cut incrementally from the edge to create a series of smaller squares. The inner squares were manipulated to become space to be inhabitable.

Wilson Avenue School

Design Intent:

Typology: K-8 School

Our goal for this project was to design a school within one of Newark’s oldest neighborhoods. Designating built and unbuilt spaces was at times challenging and frustrating. To combat the frustration, a strict modular system was created. This system allowed for a school design that was ordered and for exterior space that was shapeable, contrary to the form of the school. Design of the exterior space was shaped to keep in mind the factor of seasonal habitation.

James Street Row-house

Design Intent:

Typology: Office and Residence

The site given for this project was of odd proportions. Only 24’ wide and generously 93’ long, divison of site had to be careful and considerate. A tri-partite scheme was devised; circulation was designated its own section and the other two sections were designed for live/work space. Height-wise, the ground floor was designated for work, the second and third floors were for residential purposes. The town-house was crowned with a library and outdoor terrace for social events. Lengthwise, the site was simply divided into interior and exterior space.
